An investigation that led to the arrest of a Carson City man on burglary and credit card fraud charges expanded Tuesday with a 25-year-old accomplice booked on felony charges, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.

Chelsea Cribbins of Carson City was booked on charges of burglary, credit card fraud, conspiracy to use a credit card and conspiracy to obtain money, possession of stolen property and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The nationally recognized and award-winning political pundit, columnist, and author Jon Ralston will be presenting his views of the national and state political climate at the Carson City Chamber Soup’s On! luncheon scheduled at the Gold Dust West on Thursday, Sept. 24 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

San Andreas— A 101-square-mile wall of flames and smoke laid siege to the drought-stricken Gold Country area for a fourth straight day Saturday as an army of firefighters tried to corral California's latest large wildfire.

By late Saturday, the Butte Fire burning in Amador and Calaveras counties had consumed about 65,000 acres, destroyed 15 structures and was threatening another 6,400, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. But firefighters reported progress in battling the blaze, saying it was 10 percent contained despite a thick layer of smoke that kept air tankers and helicopters from flying Saturday.

Back by popular demand, the Gold Hill Hotel offers a revitalized dinner and lecture series. Held each Thursday evening starting Sept. 17, the Gold Hill Lecture Series provides a glimpse into the history of Gold Hill and the Comstock. Kicking off the series is Virginia City’s own John Tyson.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sep. 11, Race Track Road will be closed between Bigelow Drive and Saddlehorn Road due to utility work. Saddlehorn Road will be open to local traffic only and there will be limited access during night hours. Detours will be signed.

Happy Labor Day, Carson City! There will be two parades to enjoy today. Head up to Virginia City for their annual Labor Parade, followed by the Battle of C Street as part of the Great Civil War Days. The other parade is comprised of the thousands of people leaving Burning Man; watch out for their dust! Matthew Baldwin, a 24-year-old graduate student at University of Nevada, Reno, was last seen Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Roommates and campus faculty say they have not seen him for a week. University Police believe Baldwin left campus in his vehicle to an unknown destination and has not contacted his employer, family or friends with his whereabouts.

Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation held its 5th annual HopeFest on Friday, August 21 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. More than $120,000 was raised through sponsorships, and sale of raffle tickets, food and beverage with 100 percent of the proceeds benefit cancer patient support and no-cost lodging at Carson Tahoe’s Merriner Cottages.

The 15-year-old Carson City boy who apparently drowned Saturday at Lake Tahoe was described as having a heart of gold by his family. Cameron St. Hilaire died Saturday at Sand Harbor State Park in Lake Tahoe while at the beach with his family.

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new year of Carson High School Senator news. While we took a break from this column this summer, we still had plenty of CHS students busy with school activities over the break. Thank you to the community for supporting students who participated in national competitions across the United States. The Senators were very well represented this summer.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of August 24-30, 2015. Crews will continue re-striping pavement markings on roadways throughout the city Sunday through Thursday each night from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. There will be a moving traffic control at locations where the striping occurs, with minor delays expected.

Before his gold and platinum selling albums, his 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and his induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame, Johnny Mathis held the high jump record for the University of Nevada, Reno’s Mackay Stadium. The famed singer and entertainer returned to campus Saturday, Aug. 22, to reminisce about his record 6’ 5 1/2” jump set in 1956.

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.
