Happy birthday, America! Today we celebrate our independence, and what better way than with a carnival. You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. There are thousands of visitors in the Northern Nevada area this weekend, and law enforcement will be out in full force.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

Carson City caretaker jailed after allegedly burglarizing home of disabled former client

A 40-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday on felony charges of burglary of an elderly person and drug sales after allegedly breaking into the home of a disabled 75-year-old man whom she had previously worked for as a caretaker, stealing his cash, coins and firearms from a bedroom safe, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Small town, big fireworks and parade July 4 in Virginia City

Fourth of July on the Comstock in historic Virginia City, Nev. promises one of the region’s longest firework displays. Echoing off Mt. Davidson at 6,200 feet elevation, the “kaboom” rocks the old 1850s historic mining community as the fireworks soar high above the town and Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.

Carson City Classic Cinema Club hosts Hollywood Gala Dinner and Fundraiser

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents the First Annual Hollywood Gala Dinner and Fundraiser at the Gold Dust West Casino, on Saturday, July 18. In celebrating the Club's first Anniversary, the theme of the event is the First Academy Awards of 1929.

Festivities of the Gala include a Red-Carpet Photo Op, Sit-Down Dinner, Raffles, and Silent Auction. The Club will also present it's first Carson Arts Studies Trust (CAST) Award to The Boys and Girls Club. Prizes will be awarded for the best Classic Celebrity Costume and for the best 1920s fashion.

Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing Joins Healogics to Raise Awareness of Chronic Wounds

The Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing is partnering locally with Healogics, Inc., the country’s largest provider in wound care services, to raise awareness throughout the region about chronic wounds affecting millions of people in the U.S.

The rising incidence of chronic wounds continues to be fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as obesity, and the late effects of radiation therapy. Left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb.

It’s a Railroad kind of weekend in Carson City. The historic 1885 Glenbrook Steam Engine will be on display Saturday, all steamed up with the Inyo at the Nevada Railroad Museum. You will want to arrive before the dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. to get the best photos. The V and T Steam Engine #25 will be running all weekend if you want to take a ride. It’s also opening weekend for the Virginia and Truckee that departs from the Eastgate Depot for Virginia City. Roundtrips sell out fast, so make sure to get a reservation if you want to go.
