A 34-year-old Stagecoach woman was arrested Thursday in the 2000 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and possession of a controlled substance, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Getting involved with the activities at Carson High School, whether directly participating or simply watching, comes down to a decision to act upon the many opportunities available. The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. Check out the Career Expo highlighting the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High; it’s open to the public and students. Take a gander at the list for all of today’s options.

As the city prepares to raise the bar by creating a new, improved, walkable and bicycle friendly downtown, it will not be business as usual for the businesses now located in the downtown core or anywhere in Carson City.

Nor will the current mindset be suitable for the vibrant new community now in the planning stages. Raising the bar on anything and everything in Carson City will be the topic of the Chamber’s February Soup’s On luncheon open to the public.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. It has been said, this 8 million dollar project will enhance the downtown area to better provide residents with a fantastic dining, shopping and recreation venue. This statement is without substantiation. As far as I know, business activity numbers are accrued citywide not by area.

Hello fellow anglers, a lot of fishing going on around our area. But a word to this wise. Although we have had nice weather this last week, the higher mountain roads can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention. Just last week I drove up to Caples Lake to do some ice fishing and got caught ahead of a multi-vehicle crash near Kirkwood.

VIRGINIA CITY — Local celebrity and cowboy music performer John Tyson will bring his “American Cowboy” show back to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday, Feb. 18, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentation Series.

Tyson, a Vietnam veteran, has worked as a law enforcement officer, range manager, working cowboy, train engineer, entertainer and journalist. He is best known regionally as a former reporter for KOLO-TV Channel 8.

But he is also well known for his cowboy songs and poetry, and stories about cowboys of the Old West.

Nevada Business Connection will hold its monthly breakfast meeting Wednesday, Feb. 17, with featured speaker John-Michael Gray, President of Triangle Labs, Inc. in Carson City.

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its first meeting of the New Year on Wednesday, February 17, 2015 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM.

Our speaker will be Mr. Wayne Scarpaci, naval artist and historian, who is an authority on the Battleship USS Nevada, BB-36. The 100th Anniversary of the Commissioning of USS Nevada will take place on March 11 of this Year.

February 7 is best known as ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ and there are plenty of parties going on around town to help you cheer for your favorite team. The Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff for Super Bowl 50 is at 3:25 p.m. and will air on CBS. Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform in this year’s halftime show.

The Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America cordially invites all Vietnam Veterans and the general public to the 2016 “Welcome Home” Vietnam Veterans Ceremony to be held at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial at Mills Park.

The half hour Ceremony is intended to honor those who served during the Vietnam War and came home while remembering those Brothers and Sisters who served, but never made it home.

Greg Hess, a retired miner, surveyor and Storey County Commissioner will discuss “The Virginia City Water System - An Engineering Marvel” at the Gold Hill Thursday Night Presentation Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill, just one mile south of Virginia City on SR 342.

Hess is a fifth-generation Comstocker, who has been involved in mining, surveying and construction for many years.
