Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make felony drug and misdemeanor DUI arrests

A 34-year-old Stagecoach woman was arrested Thursday in the 2000 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and possession of a controlled substance, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

This Friday, 39 employers will be available at the Carson City Community Center to meet with potential employees seeking a wide variety of career opportunities.

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Raising the Bar: Carson City Chamber lunch features city business development manager

Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra area fishing report for week of Feb. 12

Hello fellow anglers, a lot of fishing going on around our area. But a word to this wise. Although we have had nice weather this last week, the higher mountain roads can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention. Just last week I drove up to Caples Lake to do some ice fishing and got caught ahead of a multi-vehicle crash near Kirkwood.

John Tyson Returns To The Gold Hill Hotel On Thursday, Feb. 18

VIRGINIA CITY — Local celebrity and cowboy music performer John Tyson will bring his “American Cowboy” show back to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday, Feb. 18, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentation Series.

Tyson, a Vietnam veteran, has worked as a law enforcement officer, range manager, working cowboy, train engineer, entertainer and journalist. He is best known regionally as a former reporter for KOLO-TV Channel 8.

But he is also well known for his cowboy songs and poetry, and stories about cowboys of the Old West.

Carson City Navy League Meeting to Feature USNS Carson City and USS Nevada BB-36

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its first meeting of the New Year on Wednesday, February 17, 2015 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM.

Our speaker will be Mr. Wayne Scarpaci, naval artist and historian, who is an authority on the Battleship USS Nevada, BB-36. The 100th Anniversary of the Commissioning of USS Nevada will take place on March 11 of this Year.

"Welcome Home" Vietnam Veterans of America Ceremony

The Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America cordially invites all Vietnam Veterans and the general public to the 2016 “Welcome Home” Vietnam Veterans Ceremony to be held at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial at Mills Park.

The half hour Ceremony is intended to honor those who served during the Vietnam War and came home while remembering those Brothers and Sisters who served, but never made it home.

Greg Hess, a retired miner, surveyor and Storey County Commissioner will discuss “The Virginia City Water System - An Engineering Marvel” at the Gold Hill Thursday Night Presentation Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill, just one mile south of Virginia City on SR 342.

Hess is a fifth-generation Comstocker, who has been involved in mining, surveying and construction for many years.
