Carson Tahoe raises more than $120,000 for local cancer patients at HopeFest 5
The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation held its 5th annual HopeFest on Friday, August 21 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. More than $120,000 was raised through sponsorships, and sale of raffle tickets, food and beverage with 100 percent of the proceeds benefit cancer patient support and no-cost lodging at Carson Tahoe’s Merriner Cottages.
Leading up to the free benefit concert, Carson Tahoe invited everyone to celebrate hope, solidarity and support for the local cancer community during the 21 Days of Hope social media campaign. HopeFest is the only Carson City area event raising funds for local cancer patients in need and draws thousands each year to enjoy the “rockin’ summer eve.”
“These funds support our neighbors who are already struggling with a cancer diagnosis and also need help with things like gas to get to treatment, no-cost lodging, and assistance with insurance co-pays,” said Kitty McKay, Director of Foundation Development at Carson Tahoe Health. Support is then distributed through the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.
Headlining the concert was the heartfelt and lively, internationally-famed Celtic rock band, The Young Dubliners. The event raffle was generously sponsored by Dick Campagni’s dealerships, which for the past nine years have donated the grand raffle prize of a choice between a new car or $10,000 cash. This year’s winner was local, Marie Bresch, 91, who was signed up as a volunteer that night. Bresch said she will be gifting the new car to her daughter.
