UPDATE 9:28AM: The first crash involved three vehicles and a driver going the wrong way. A female motorist was unconscious and flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon. Her condition is unknown at this time. The crash is under investigation.

At least one person was seriously injured in a vehicle crash that happened Friday morning on Highway 50 East near Gold Dust West and the I580 overpass.

The Carson High School winners of the Shark Tank competition are in with amazing new ideas for start-up companies and new inventions of products, not to mention the monetary winnings that allow these aspiring entrepreneur-contestants to take the next step in the process of starting their own businesses or inventing and marketing their new products.

A 32-year-old Fallon man was arrested Wednesday, 1:08 a.m in the area of Stewart and Corbett streets for misdemeanor suspicion of obstructing, resisting an officer and battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy was battered Friday night at 10:10 p.m. by a 39 year-old Carson City woman, leading to her arrest for gross misdemeanor battery on a peace officer as well as misdemeanor resisting and obstructing, the arrest report said.

This is the story of two of the most beautiful people I have had the privilege to get to know over the years, Bob and Kathleen Ash, The Ashes. Journalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”

DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.

Artwork by Sophie Scott of New Zealand will be on display at the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City during the 2017 Legislative session. Look for it on the third floor near Ways and Means. Sophie’s painting, based on an 1860s photograph of Silver City, was created while she was a resident artist in Silver City in 2015.

Another atmospheric river is headed our way today through Tuesday bringing periods of torrential rain and strong winds to Carson City, the valley areas and several feet of snow to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.

A powerful winter storm associated with a strong atmospheric river will bring gusty winds and very heavy precipitation to the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas and deep snow to the upper Sierra tonight through late Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Fingers crossed, we’ve got a few days without the wet stuff. This winter seems like the song that never ends. We received late word that Saturday's monthly Trash Mob has been canceled. Navy cadets on the Carson High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (CHS NJROTC) orienteering team know where they're going.

Equipped only with magnetic-north compasses and maps, these cadets have found their way to the Navy JROTC Orienteering Championships for the third straight year.

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its first meeting of the New Year on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The Social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM. Our speaker will be Commander James Shell, USN, Executive Officer, Naval Air Station Fallon. Commander Shell will be speaking on the expansion of the Bombing Ranges at Fallon.
There will also be an update on the activities of USNS Carson City,T-EPF-7.

An investigation is underway after a Squaw Valley ski patroller died Tuesday morning at the resort during avalanche control duties.

Joe Zuiches, 42, of Olympic Valley and a member of the Squaw Valley professional ski patrol since 2012, was killed in a fatal incident at 8:35 a.m. during avalanche control activities on top of Gold Coast Ridge.
