The Carson City Fire Department was called just before 9 a.m. to the intersection of Clearview and South Carson Street for traffic accident.

Nevada Builders Alliance installs new board, hosts annual meeting

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada Builders Alliance, the state-wide association representing more than 700 member companies in all facets of construction, is hosting its annual dinner at The Grove in Reno Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. The Alliance will host its annual meeting in Las Vegas at Sierra Gold at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Heller and Amodei are on the wrong side of history regarding National Monuments

Last week Congressman Amodei and Senator Heller introduced legislation to “prevent the threat of executive action designating or expanding national monuments without Congressional approval or local support.” Their legislation would add Nevada to Wyoming as the only states exempt from presidential designation of National Monuments, except as authorized by Congress.

Dayton Valley Chili Cookoff and Superbowl Party Benefits Food Pantry

I wish everyone luck keeping their triskaidekaphobia at bay. The number thirteen is nothing to fear, even when it falls on a Friday. (I’m not going to lie: triskaidekaphobia is one of my favorite words and I very rarely get the chance to use it in a sentence.) Mother Nature has thrown us for a loop this week, and we deserve the chance to enjoy the break in the storm. Take the family down to the Library for their game corner, or cheer on the talented cast of ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ at the Community Center.

NDOT moves quickly with flood-related road repair contracts

CARSON CITY, Nev. – In just the first days after several northwestern Nevada state roads were damaged by flooding, the Nevada Department of Transportation has let out emergency contracts and contractors are already being dispatched to repair erosion and other flood-related roadway damage. The repairs follow tours of the damage taken by Governor Sandoval and local officials both before and after the flood.

UPDATE 6:08AM TUESDAY: Highway 395 through the Carson Valley remains closed southbound, but open northbound, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation, NDOT. Southbound detour at Jacks Valley Valley Road to Foothill.

UPDATE 5:15PM: Traffic continues to crawl along Jacks Valley Road and Foothill due to the Highway 395 closure.
One lane of Highway 395 northbound has reopened at Stephanie. Southbound is still closed.

UPDATE 2:45PM: Both the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 395 are closed due to flooding along the Cradlebaugh Bridge in Carson Valley, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Southbound Highway 395 motorists are advised to take Jacks Valley Road and connect to Foothill Road. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning people around at the RV park, he said.

Lyon County Manager's Office releases Monday morning flood assessment

Here is the Lyon County Emergency Management situation status report for late Monday morning: The Emergency Coordination Center is open. There have been no injuries or fatalities in the flooding events. There have been 25 confirmed structures damaged, with 200 to 400 structures threatened. Road closures and stats:

Carson City courthouse open, Meals on Wheels resumes Tuesday, evacuation shelter to close

The Meals on Wheels program is closed today. Seniors are asked to eat their provided shelf-stable meal. Welfare checks are being made on those seniors who th participate in the program. The Senior Center will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and will resume normal operations.

Lyon County Manager urges Dayton residents to stay off the roads

UPDATE 6:05PM: All schools in the Lyon County School District will be closed Monday, according to the district's Facebook page.

Due to the continuing heavy rains and local flooding, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page is asking for Dayton residents to stay home as much possible and off the roads. There are a number of current road closures throughout the area, and the weather conditions are expected to get worse throughout Sunday night.

Localized floods ongoing, Carson River rising in Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County

With localized drainage flooding happening in many areas around the capital city region today, the Carson River near Carson City is rising and expected to reach peak flood stage Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

With heavy rain arriving and local flooding looking likely, Carson City Public Works crews were out in full force Sunday morning clearing streets of debris and slushy snow piling around drainages.

Carson City emergency managers have produced a video for residents ahead of anticipated flooding throughout western Nevada expected from an an atmospheric river weather event over the weekend.

Imagine a long, narrow river in the sky about 250 to 375 miles wide, moving along with the weather. It transports water vapor with a flow several times faster than the water at the mouth of the Mississippi River.
