May is a month to celebrate historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada.

The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. You’ll have to keep reading for all of your choices, the spring thaw brings out the best this valley has to offer.

SATURDAY:

A 56-year-old Carson City woman was jailed Thursday after she allegedly stole a debit card belonging to her roommate and used it to take out money at a grocery store and two casinos, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Meet at 280 Appion Way. We'll check to see how much water is in the pond, talk about the improvement plans for the park and then walk over to check on the progress for the new freeway.

Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hats and sunscreen recommended.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

As the week rolls along, it’s easy to get excited about the weekend. Genoa’s Cowboy Festival takes over the tiny town with music, poetry, artisans, food, and fun and the Comstock hills will roar to life with motorbikes during the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. While you’re waiting, enjoy a jaunt with Muscle Powered along the Carson River or take an Easy Walk to the Pioneer Cemetery. Tonight, songstress Canyon White will take the stage at Living the Good Life.

TUESDAY:

Carson City Fire Department responded early Monday afternoon to a vehicle crash in the area of East William Street across from Gold Dust West.

UPDATE 12:14AM: A man reported missing Saturday morning was found by a sheriff's deputy late Saturday night in Voltaire Canyon, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Larry Hicks, 74, told the deputy he had been in the canyon for a couple of days and was suffering from severe dehydration.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. A benefit event to raise money for the surviving children of Heavenly Schwitchenberg, who died recently in a car accident, takes place today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Gold Canyon Cafe, 160 Main St., in Old Town Dayton.

With all the emphasis on teaching robotics in the schools, one wonders what will become of those of us who are less than science or mathematically gifted.

Robots already permeate our lives at almost every turn and each day brings new revelations about how robots are taking over the once hum-drum jobs humans no longer wish to perform — or manufacturers no longer wish to pay humans the salaries and benefits it takes to manufacture a widget.

Smack dab in the middle of April and the town is officially in its Spring thaw. Easter is on Sunday, so just about anywhere you go you’ll find the Bunny and an egg hunt. To make it easy, I’ve moved all of those events to their own everything Easter list HERE.

More than 80 Carson High School Career and Technical Education health science students and members of CHS HOSA Future Health Professionals swept the Nevada HOSA State Leadership Conference held at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, competing in more than 30 events in March.

Gusty winds, valley rain and mountain snow will move into the Carson City region tonight through Saturday morning bringing a potential for some flooding along small creeks and streams, according to the National Weather Service.

The March Chamber Soup’s On! will offer a fascinating insight into the four personality styles to better understand ourselves and those around us. This understanding is especially valuable in the workplace.

The CHSD Orchestra, under the direction of Brian Fox, participated in the Washoe County School District High School Orchestra Festival 2017 at UNR’s Nightingale Hall. Judges from Sacramento and the Bay Area rated this group alongside similar groups from the Reno and Sparks area.
