This event may not be as exciting as Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs triumph over the Cleveland Indians, ending a 108 year title drought, but anyone who ever attended Carson High School or Douglas High School knows that its rivalry has lasted equally as long.

John Bullis: Best ways to make investments in gold

There are many ways to invest in gold. Some have some surprising tax rules. As with all investment decisions, you would not want to put all your money in gold or any one stock.

Diversification is best. If you choose to invest in gold (directly or indirectly), maybe you should limit the amount to about 5 percent of your total investments.

What Works: Good boundaries make for good business

I grew up where the handshake deal was gold. If someone said they would do something, they did it. All it took was a handshake and work began. Handshake deals are still pretty common. Unfortunately, plenty can still be misunderstood with a handshake deal.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

What Works: What I learned about business through paranormal investigating

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes, business lessons come flying at me faster than I can take notes about them. Ideas are sort of like orbs. Some you can’t see unless you are looking for them. Some people believe in them, some don’t. Yet they are always a topic of discussion. The orbs were flying like crazy at The St. Charles Hotel this past weekend.
