The mood has been somber in Carson City this week. The news of Sheriff Deputy Carl Howell’s shooting death has rallied the community, beginning with a large candlelight vigil held last Saturday at the Capitol. Today the officer will be laid to rest after a funeral service at the Reno Convention Center. A procession will leave the Carson City Courthouse at 9 a.m. and travel north along Carson Street. Douglas County authorities: Battery victim in Gardnerville fight allegedly shot attacker

A man critically injured Tuesday night in Gardnerville after a shooting was allegedly shot by the victim of a battery that happened earlier in the evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

During the investigation, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has learned that earlier in the evening a fight had occurred at an Ann Way residence in the Gardnerville Ranchos area that involved four individuals and that the initial aggressor left the scene, said DCSO spokesman Pat Brooks.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a person was shot at an Ann Way home in the Gardnerville area on Tuesday night.
The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. when deputies responded to the 700 block of Ann Way, near Scarselli Elementary School, for a report of shots fired, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Northern Nevada JobConnect host job fairs this week in Reno and Carson City

Nevada JobConnect will hold two job fairs this week, Wednesday, in Reno and Thursday in Carson City. The job fairs are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

Dr. Ben Carson to Attend the Inaugural Basque Fry in Gardnerville

After an impressive performance at the first Republican Presidential Candidates' Debate, Dr. Carson will join a handful of other candidates at a Basque-style barbecue open to the public at the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville on Aug. 15.

The barbecue continues the tradition of Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt's grandfather, Paul Laxalt, who hosted similar barbecues with political figures both as a governor and senator.

Lane closures begin for Highway 395 project Between South Carson City and Gardnerville

The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin overnight work to apply a top sealant coating to Highway 395 between south Carson City and Gardnerville.

Overnight single lane closures will take place on Highway 395 between the Highway 50 junction in south Carson City and Mono Avenue in Gardnerville Monday, Aug. 10 through Thursday, Aug. 14, as well as Monday, Aug. 17.

A 49-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday in 1400 block of Medical Parkway on a felony drug charge and misdemeanor trespassing, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Carson City Sheriff's Office to lead investigation into fatal Douglas County shooting

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be handling the investigation of an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a Gardnerville Ranchos man Thursday night.

The man, identified as Mark Perkins, 48, was killed after reportedly threatening to kill a neighbor and shoot a police officer, and later confronting officers outside of his home on Monument Peak while pointing two weapons at multiple officers.

Gaming revenue at Carson City area casinos increased by 4 percent in June compared to the same period in 2014, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make drug and warrant arrests

A Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:56 a.m. on felony charges of possession of a controlled substances and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription after officers discovered the man had been in possession of seven Oxycodone pills, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City sheriffs log: Man jailed for child neglect, allegedly leaves son on interstate

A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 1500 block of Monte Rosa Drive on suspicion of felony child neglect, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Carson Now is withholding the name of the suspect, who is the father of the victim, to protect the juvenile. The man was booked at 3:03 p.m. on $40,000 bail.
