Douglas County authorities: Battery victim in Gardnerville fight allegedly shot attacker
A man critically injured Tuesday night in Gardnerville after a shooting was allegedly shot by the victim of a battery that happened earlier in the evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
During the investigation, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has learned that earlier in the evening a fight had occurred at an Ann Way residence in the Gardnerville Ranchos area that involved four individuals and that the initial aggressor left the scene, said DCSO spokesman Pat Brooks.
The initial incident occurred at approximately at 8:20 p.m. During that initial altercation, the person of interest in the shooting, John Stalcup, 56, was a victim of a battery. When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect in the battery had fled the scene.
At 9:36 p.m., deputies received the shots fired call at 706 Ann Way. The suspect of the battery had returned to the address and another confrontation occurred. During this subsequent altercation a firearm was discharged and the initial aggressor received a single gunshot wound which remains life threatening.
The suspect of the battery was transported to Renown Medical. Stalcup was treated and released from the Carson Valley Medical Center.
At this time no arrests have been made, the firearm has been recovered and this case is still under investigation.
