Hey stargazers, the Perseid Meteor Shower is in full force. Earthgrazer meteors are rare but most exciting and memorable, and can only appear at early to mid-evening, when the radiant point of the shower is close to the horizon. The meteors don’t really start to pick up steam until after midnight, and usually don’t bombard the sky most abundantly until the wee hours before dawn. You may see 50 or so meteors per hour in a dark sky. Give yourself at least an hour of observing time, for these meteors in meteor showers come in spurts and are interspersed with lulls.

It’s boot-scootin’ time at the Eleventh Frame Lounge inside Carson Lanes with lessons for the beginner, couples, and more advanced line dancers. Trivia lovers should head over to Lake Tahoe Brewing Company where it might pay to know that today is filmmaker Cecil B. Demille’s birthday. Bonus round, Demille directed the 1934 movie, Cleopatra starring Claudette Colbert. Coincidentally, on this day in 30 BC, Cleopatra succumbed to a self-inflicted snake bite following Marc Antony’s suicide.
