Gaming revenue at Carson City and Carson Valley casinos fell 6 percent in May compared to May 2015, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Thunderstorms developing south of Carson City

The National Weather Service advises thunderstorms are moving into the region early Tuesday evening bringing the possibility of a half inch of hail and wind gusts of up to 55 mph.

At 5:36 p.m. the weather service Doppler radar was tracking the thunderstorms over the Eastern Sierra and Western Nevada, mainly south of Highway 50, prompting a Special Weather Statement.

Chautauqua of three local historical figures July 6 at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park

Carson City sheriff’s detectives investigate armed robbery at O’Reilly Auto Parts

UPDATE 2:53PM: Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating an armed robbery that happened late Monday night at O’Reilly Auto Parts on North Carson Street.

The crime happened at around 10 p.m. after the store had closed, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. Clerks told investigators that two men entered the back of the auto parts store, presented a pistol and baseball bat and then robbed the store of its daily intake money.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Pair jailed after fake credit card laboratory found inside car

A California man and woman were arrested Friday on suspicion of credit card fraud after an elaborate computer forgery lab was discovered inside a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

A huge shout-out to the Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition: their Focus on Carson Photography Contest has concluded and the winners will be featured on a banner at Telegraph and Curry. The inaugural Carson City Off-Road racing series, part of the Epic Rides mountain biking circuit, was more than successful.

It was epic.

Todd Sadow, co-founder and president of Epic Rides, said the race around the Nevada state capital exceeded expectations.

Officials: Gardnerville townhouse complex fire sparked by cigarette butts

The fire at a Gardnerville townhouse complex that displaced more than 30 people was caused by cigarette butts that ignited juniper bushes on Tuesday, June 14, according to an investigation by the East Fork Fire Protection District.

Another good bet is karaoke at Crossroads Lounge: it’s in the East Winnie Lane shopping center with San Marcos Grill and Bleu Café. The West Side Cruiser Ride for Bike Month is a sure thing. Meet at the Brewery Art Center, costumes are highly encouraged, and then meander around our beautiful downtown with some other fun people. Living the Good Life wants you to enjoy a music jam; bring your instrument if you want to sit in.

Fire crews battle apartment fire in Gardnerville

East Fork Fire crews are tending to a three-alarm fire in the apartments between Raley’s and Smith’s in Gardnerville Tuesday evening. At least six units have been declared uninhabitable.

The initial report came in around 5:45 p.m. Occupants are being referred to the Red Cross of Northern Nevada. NV Energy and Southwest Gas are on scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting with crowd control.

RE/MAX Realty Affiliates Hosts Hot Air Balloon Rides at Carson City Airport Open House

The Carson City RE/MAX Realty Affiliates office is sponsoring hot air balloon rides at the Carson City Airport open house on Saturday, June 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. (depending on wind conditions).

This is the 6th year, RE/MAX has sponsored the event, and they anticipate 80 to 90 rides, if past years are any indication.

Everyone interested in a tethered hot air balloon ride is asked to make a $5 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). As RE/MAX is sponsoring the event, 100 percent of money raised will go to CMN.

Thursday is something to celebrate. The long-awaited Nevada State Fair kicks off in Mills Park with a ribbon cutting by Governor Sandoval. Grab the kids, your friends, and family and enjoy carnival rides, county exhibits, civil war reenactments and much more. Our neighbors to the south are celebrating, too: the 106th Annual Carson Valley Days is this weekend. If you’re looking for something quieter, the lecture on the Civil War at the Gold Hill Hotel or an author’s talk on the Ghost Railroads of Central Nevada at the Nevada State Railroad Museum might be a better bet.
