East Fork Fire Protection District crews in Douglas County were called late afternoon Thursday to a wildfire in the area of Diamond Valley School in Alpine County near Markleeville.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 33, now in its 77th year, will host its 3rd annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 13 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

Sunday is the last chance for celebrity sightings at Edgewood Golf Resort in at south shore Lake Tahoe as the American Century Celebrity Championship tournament comes to a close. Learn about the legacy of Douglas County’s Dangberg family from the rancher’s grandson, author Steve Archard. I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. An investigation into the March 10 theft of more than $116,000 worth of Lake Tahoe area ski pass vouchers has led to the arrest of three men on suspicion of conspiracy, felony embezzlement, theft and possession of stolen property, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its eighth annual clothing drive to lend a hand to families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school.
The event is open to the public on Saturday, August 13, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.

Summer nights were made for outdoor concerts. Bring a chair and enjoy All Hat, No Cattle at Dangberg Home Ranch Historical Park. The annual Reno Corvette Club Show and Shine will give you something to drool over. A 60-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday in the 3200 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of a third DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 4:40PM: East Fork Fire, Bureau of Land Management. Along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are still on scene working a fire that is estimated to be 15-20 acres in size and 10 percent contained on private property and BLM land. East Fork Fire is the lead agency and working with BLM, Nevada Division of Forestry and US Forest Service. The fire is located in the Ruby Hill Mine area near Pine Nut Road #2 and Out R way in Gardnerville.

It’s going to be a beautiful, sunshiny day in Carson City. After a couple of cool, breezy days, the temperatures are returning to the 90s. If this is a beach day, consider sticking around for the Pints and Paddles Cruise on the MS Dixie in Zephyr Cove. Head downtown for some yummy goodness; today’s Farmers Market runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Living the Good Life welcomes Rocky and Judith to the stage. A 44-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Monday on a felony warrant, failure to appear, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton, Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr., of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and U.S. Congressman Dr. Joe Heck will be among the featured speakers at the Second Annual Basque Fry on Aug. 20, 2016, the Morning in Nevada PAC announced Tuesday.

More United States military veterans will be able to travel to Washington, D.C. because of the proceeds expected from this weekend's regional chili cook-offs held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in north Carson City, Honor Flight Nevada Founder Jon Yuspa said.

Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. Downtown is in a for a new building; Hop and Mae Adams Foundation breaks ground at Curry and Telegraph this morning. Yummy stuff awaits at the Wednesday Farmers Market. Check out some evening fun with Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House. Track down some creepy crawlies with a Scorpion Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park; bring a black light if you have one.

Monday’s aren’t always known for fun, but the Fourth of July is a different animal. Carson City, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno will have fireworks displays starting around 9:30. Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa aren’t slacking, though. Festivities can be found just about everywhere.

Sunday is the day before Independence Day, but Sparks is getting a jump on the festivities with their Star Spangled Sparks Celebration and fireworks. King’s Beach always celebrates early, so you can catch fireworks at the northeast end of Tahoe, as well. Keep reading: the weekend is in full swing.
