Are you ready for the new school year? One last weekend of summer break before the kids of Carson City head back, so make the most of it. Jazz and Beyond takes it up a notch in its final few days with eight hours of non-stop music downtown. Western Nevada College new soccer team plays its first home game today against Folsom Lake Community College. Friday has arrived and it’s bringing with it a valley full of good times. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Exhibition comes to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 27, beginning at 11:00 am.

A 32-year-old Gardnerville woman was arrested Wednesday, 10:24 p.m. at a casino in the 5600 block of South Carson Street for suspicion of battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Don Baldwin will portray John Muir, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 24, at 6:30 pm. Known as "John of the Mountains", Muir was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher and early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has returned and will be at the Community Center tonight, if you were quick enough to grab free tickets from the Chamber of Commerce. Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. I hope you like live music, Carson City, because tonight you’ve got plenty of it. No matter what your style, there is someone for you. Take the kids to the Nevada State State Train Museum for Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive or to the McFadden Plaza for an outdoor concert with Musicole. Leave the kids with a sitter if you’re going to head to Living the Good Life for some outdoor fun with CV-41 or inside the Westside Pour House with reggae group Whiskey Lung. A to Zen has a store-wide scavenger hunt to accompany their weekly open Mic.

The first ever Carson Valley Ag Day will be held Saturday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. This free, family friendly event celebrates the region’s rich agricultural history and provides the community a good understanding of where food, fuel and fiber comes from, how it’s grown and who the local people are making it happen.

More residential permits have been issued by the Municipality of Carson City in 2016 than any other single year in almost a decade, said Carson City Community Development Department Director Lee Plemel, AICP.

Twelve employees of Smith’s grocery store in Gardnerville delivered around 100 “goody bags” for the sworn deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The making of the bags was a joint effort of employees of Smith’s. The bags contained roasted coffee beans from locally owned Blind Dog Coffee, food items, and a container of water.

What a fun Wednesday in store for Carson City. The usual options of Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, Country Line Dancing at Carson Lanes, and the Farmers Market in McFadden Plaza still apply. Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

The Aurelia Chamber Players are putting on a concert at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville on Friday, August 12, at 7 p.m. This concert will feature Gardnerville native, Anne Ristorcelli, as well as regional artists and internationally renowned musicians.

This weekend, I attended the final Levitt AMP concert for the summer at the Brewery Arts Center. Boy, was it fun! But, it also sparked a few connections for me which will result in business meetings this week. This, to me, is networking.

Silver State Online High School in Carson City has turned school into a party! Its back to school enrollment drive on August 13th from 11AM-1PM features an atrium barbecue complete with all the fixings, drinks,and desserts. FREE drawings will be held throughout the event. Eligible winners include all families that enroll one or more new students at the event.

The Douglas Tiger Marching Band will hold a fundraising car wash on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walgreens, 1342 Highway 395 in Gardnerville.
The car wash will be to raise money to help students pay for the cost of their trip to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. Greater Nevada Credit Union will match the first $1,000 raised.

Fifteen days of non-stop music begins tonight at the Bliss Mansion with the Jazz and Beyond Garden Party; don’t miss out on the fabulous art show, tours of the historic home, and great jams. Downtown will be rocking tonight as the Carson High Class of 86 celebrates their reunion in Telegraph Square with two live bands. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Silver State Swimmer, with artwork by Michael Malley at the city’s Sierra Room located in the Community Center, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The free exhibition is available to the public from July 11 - November 10, 2016. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, September 9, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room.

Author Guy Clifton will speak on his book Dempsey in Nevada in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 6, at 10 a.m.

Many people are surprised to learn that Jack Dempsey once called Nevada home. Dempsey left footprints all over the Silver State that affected the entire sporting arena.
