Minor travel delays will happen Wednesday, May 31 at the U.S. 50 and Alternate U.S. 95 intersection in Silver Springs as part of a Nevada Department of Transportation road improvement project.

Driver Education
In this classroom only course new drivers can prepare for the challenges of driving (and driver license testing) in the Western Nevada College Driver Education Program. The non-credit course meets four days for 30 hours of classroom training; Students must be at least 15 years of age on the last day of class to be eligible to take the course. The WNC Driver Education Program meets the training requirements to obtain a Nevada driver’s license.

Western Nevada College’s 2017 Jump Start graduating class includes 89 students representing Churchill County, Dayton, Fernley, Pyramid Lake, Silver Stage and Virginia City high schools, as well as Oasis Academy and Nevada Virtual Academy.

Memorial Day events at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley

The public is invited to attend two Memorial Day events at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery located in Fernley, Nev.

The first is on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with a "Flag-In" event. Volunteers are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 AM to assist in placing an American flag on each gravesite. Participants will receive a free commemorative WW1 pin to show appreciation in preparing the cemetery for the main Memorial Day ceremony.

Lyon County woman sentenced to prison in 2015 fatal DUI drug crash

A 29-year-old Fernley woman who pled guilty in a Lyon County courtroom to driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing death and driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing substantial bodily harm, was sentenced to prison.

Students receive internationally recognized Siemens credential at Western Nevada College

Different life journeys brought nine Nevadans together to celebrate a shared accomplishment; earning an internationally recognized manufacturing certification. Emily Howarth’s advanced manufacturing and mechatronics students were honored on Wednesday at Western Nevada College. Lyon and Storey Coalition Hosts Speakers from Foster Care Recruitment and Mobile Crisis Response Team

The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties will have 3 guest speakers for their February breakfast meeting. The meeting is on Thurs February 9th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Speakers include Lori Nichols from Foster Care Recruitment, and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care Program. They will explain the pressing need for foster homes in the Lyon and Storey County region, and offer ways to help increase the number of foster parents.

NDOT inspects Carson Valley area bridges

On Wednesday, underwater bridge inspectors hired by the Nevada Department of Transportation inspected 12 bridges in the Carson Valley, Minden and Gardnerville areas to evaluate for any potential flood-related bridge damage.
