Heavy rain prompts Flood Warning for Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties

Heavy rainfall early Tuesday around Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties has prompted a Flood Warning by the National Weather Service.
At 6:34 a.m. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause flooding. Up to two inches of rain has already fallen across the Carson Range with up to a half inch along the Highway 395 corridor, according to the weather service.
Much of the Washoe County region is also in the weather service Flood Warning area, which is in effect until 6:30 p.m.

Residents of Carson City are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED, a free emergency notification service provided to all residents which will notify you of emergency information through phone calls, text messages, emails, social media and the CodeRED Mobile Alert app.

Along with the rainfall and snowmelt, the greatest threat for flooding is near creeks, streams, ditches, urban areas, construction sites, farmland and pastures. Motorists commuting this morning should slow down and be prepared for ponding of water on roads.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Curry Street in Carson City, Fairview and Rhodes streets, portions of Carson Street and Stewart streets, North Carson Street near Nye, Minden, Gardnerville, Gardnerville Ranchos, Virginia City, Dayton, Six Mile Canyon, Fernley, Washoe Valley, Spanish Springs, Golden Valley, Verdi-Mogul, Incline Village and Glenbrook at Lake Tahoe.
