Today we honor those who have not only served, but who gave all in defense of our country. A tribute ceremony at Lone Mountain Cemetery for our Nevadan veterans will begin at 1 p.m. A memorial for our Native American veterans begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery across the street from the Stewart Indian School. The 10th annual barbecue at Evergreen Gene’s welcomes all comers, and veterans will get 25 percent any of the fun things they find in the shop. Read on below for more happenings today.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case. The journey of a prized rifle from one ill-fated owner to another parallels a cowboy's search for a murderous fugitive.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. Owners of Mangia Tutto, a new Italian pizzeria and ristorante that will occupy the former D'Vine Wines space located at 200 North Stewart Street, said they plan to open in July 2018 at the corner of Musser and Stewart streets in downtown Carson City.

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be looking for motorists and occupants who are not buckled up while traveling. Troopers, deputies and officers will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations from Tuesday through May 31 across Northern Nevada.

Riding a 9-game UPSL unbeaten streak, the Western Nevada FC Coyotes travel to San Jose, CA to take on Real San Jose this Saturday at 6:45 pm. The Coyotes currently sit atop the Wild West Conference standings at 7-1-0 with 22 points. The club is also the number one ranked team in the country for the second consecutive week.

True Grit: A Celebration of Old West Culture from miners, pioneers, ranchers and outlaws, will be featured this Saturday at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

The Western Nevada FC Coyotes will be holding a 48-hour 12th Man fundraising campaign starting Tuesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. Money raised during the campaign will help offset some of the costs the team incurs, especially on road trips. The club has set a goal for this fundraiser of $5,000 with 200 people joining at various levels within the 12th Man Club.

For the 2017-2018 school year, a staff of 47 was dedicated to making a memorable book for others to keep throughout their lives and be passed down through generations; and again the book received the Gallery of Excellence Award, in which the book is used as an example of a successful yearbook in schools and at conferences across the country.

The historic McKeen Motor Car, a self-propelled gasoline rail car, opened the 2018 season at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City Saturday with 35-minute rides.

Western Nevada College’s much anticipated True Grit art exhibit in the Bristlecone Gallery has the Carson City community engaged and excited. As part of the exhibit that will open Thursday, artists from around the state have been creating works from a canceled deck of playing cards from local casinos.
