Three hot air balloons are scheduled to launch early Sunday morning from East Fork Fire Station 12, located at 3620 North Sunridge Drive in South Carson City, part of a retirement celebration for a firefighting veteran with the East Fork Fire District in Douglas County.

It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

UPDATE: 8:42AM: From Lyon County Facebook page: Lyon County had its 6th wildfire since June 2. The Upper Colony burned more than 1,000 acres on June 17, 2018. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took the fire over at 8 p.m.
The Smith Valley Fire District did an outstanding job working the fire and bringing in resources. Over 300 people fought this fire with 25 Engines, 3 Helicopters, 8 fixed wing aircraft, and 4 hand crews.

Lyon County opened a shelter at the Smith Valley Baptist Church. LCSO managed evacuations with the assistance of SAR and Douglas County. The Large Animal Rescue Team assisted with sheltering livestock.

Angela Bullentini Wolf has a long family history in the Carson City area. Her ancestors settled here about 150 years ago way back in the days of Abraham Curry.

They were ranchers and business owners then.

Bring any unknown plants from your yard to Shoe Tree Brewing Company in Carson City on Monday, June 25 and have experts from the Carson City Weed Coalition and Open Space Department identify them while enjoying some tasty brews.

The event starts at 6 p.m. The coalition will tell you if your plants are noxious or not, and how to get rid of them if they are.

This is going to be an epic Fathers’ Day weekend. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Don’t miss Arts and Culture Day at the Nevada State Railroad Museum with unlimited rides on the Steam Train, special vendors, and more. MONDAY, June 11: Things to do in Carson City

The Piper Fire, which burned about 300 acres near Silver Springs, was downgraded to clean-up mode Friday night, according to a post on the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District Facebook page.

"The forecast for tomorrow is not favorable,," the district stated. "We’ll have crews monitoring the burn area tonight and patrolling tomorrow. The cause of the fire is still being investigated."

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. The Nevada Department of Wildlife's annual Free Fishing Day is this Saturday, June 9. Anglers may fish in any public water throughout the Silver State without a fishing license. All limits and other regulations apply.

BREAKING NEWS 5:47PM: The cause of the fire burning in Lyon County was determined to be by target shooting, County Manager Jeff Page reports. The fire is 75 percent contained at this time and night operations will be in place.

Sassabration, an annual celebration of diversity, is returning to Carson City July 14 in the parking lot of Carson Hot Springs Resort, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.

Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery will host an Artist Faire this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 110 South Curry Street in the parking lot and on the porch. A selection of the gallery’s artists will be displaying their work, and some will be doing live demonstrations.

Please join us at Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery today, June 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. for our monthly Artist of the Month reception, as we celebrate the artwork of Elaine Legras, a Reno artist and jeweler, and owner of Blue Zephyr Fine Metals along with her husband, Jean Pierre.

The annual Carson City Fair — a combination of carnival, agriculture, local exhibits and entertainment — is returning to the Nevada state capital July 25-29, 2018 at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds.

More than 15 Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) with the First Juvenile District Court in Carson City were sworn in Wednesday during a public ceremony held at the Carson City Courthouse.
