Train ride season opens at Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City
The historic McKeen Motor Car, a self-propelled gasoline rail car, opened the 2018 season at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City Saturday with 35-minute rides.
Built in 1910 for service on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the McKeen Motor Car No. 22 — one of 150 built around the country between 1905 and 1917 — is the only fully restored and operable one left in existence.
Rides aboard the McKeen Motor Car continue Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fares are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-11, and free for children 3 and younger.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum, located at 2180 South Carson Street in Carson City, is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission to the museum is $6 for adults, and children under 18 are free.
