Little Monsters to close its doors in Carson City
Little Monsters Children's Resale Store in Carson City is closing permanently May 25 after almost five years in business, said the Chambers family, who opened the retail operation in the fall of 2013.
“All along, our goal was to provide local families with quality children's goods at low prices, and ultimately, to do our part in recycling, reducing waste, and preventing over-consumption in order to make the world a better place for future generations,” the Chambers said in a statement. "We want to thank the community for their patronage and support. We've met wonderful families and have loved being part of Carson City."
Ownership said the family has faced some personal challenges over the years and were recently faced with the difficult decision of closing the store.
"We had to make a decision to close the store," the Chambers family said. "We know we have the support of our customers, but some issues we could not overcome."
The store is currently holding a clearance sale ahead of the closing date. Sale items can be found on Little Monsters Facebook page and on the store's web site at littlemonsterscarson.com.
The Chambers family said some customers still have outstanding store credit to shop with and they want to encourage their patrons to use that credit before the business closes.
"We want the word to get out about the store closing so people can come use their store credit or let us know they wish to donate their existing credit to our Foundation account," the Chambers said. "The Andrea Louise O'Donnell Foundation account we have at the store has purchased clothing and shoes for children in difficult circumstances. Giving kids dignity and happiness was so important to us, and we were always happy to have the Foundation account help kids in dire situations."
Little Monsters has specialized in baby and children clothing, shoes, toys and equipment. The store carries boys and girls sizes from preemie through youth size 18-20, or to about a 12-13 years old.
“We have been open since late fall 2013 worked hard to make sure we sell things parents need while offering first class service and quality items at discounted prices,” store manager Stasia Chambers said. “We were in business to buy and sell gently used baby and kids apparel, bedding, furniture, equipment, books, DVDs, toys, and accessories of all kinds.”
The Chambers said they will miss their customers, especially the children who visited regularly with their parents.
"Kids have been coming here for a long time and we have watched them grow up over the years," the family said. "Our goal was to make shopping easier for families and more affordable to raise your kids."
