Two-month old Infant dies, father located in Sacramento and taken into custody
A two-month old infant girl was taken off of life support at 12:48 a.m. Saturday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The agency is investigating a child abuse case involving a suspect, Trent Getty, the father of the girl, who was wanted by Douglas County investigators, and found in Sacramento, Calif., at a Greyhound Bus depo. He was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.
Suspect Getty is in custody in the Sacramento County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Douglas County, Nev., said Brooks. The case remains under investigation. The cause of death is pending autopsy.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 2:48 a.m., deputies responded to the Carson Valley Medical Center for a report of an unresponsive infant that was brought in by Getty, 23.
During the subsequent investigation, Investigators developed information that the infant had suffered substantial injuries which appear to be the result of traumatic abuse and are inconsistent with the initial statement given by the father regarding how the injury occurred, said Brooks in a news statement Friday.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Getty, and his bail has been set at $1 million.
