Carson Tahoe Health and Sierra Surgery Hospital awarded Healthcare Quality Accreditation
Carson Tahoe Health and Sierra Surgery Hospital have earned a three-year accreditation by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality, officials announced Tuesday.
The accreditation process is voluntary and includes a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey administered by CIHQ. Accreditation is given only to hospitals that enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring the quality of the care they deliver against national standards.
Prior to 2015, The Joint Commission had served as Carson Tahoe Health system’s official healthcare accrediting agency for the last 60 years. Carson Tahoe and Sierra Surgery Hospital decided to undergo accreditation by CIHQ following research that indicated their survey is more relevant to Carson Tahoe Health’s mission and vision, patient-focused safety, and supportive of quality healthcare delivery.
"Every employee throughout the Carson Tahoe Health system works tirelessly to ensure our patients receive top-notch, exceptional care," says Ed Epperson, Carson Tahoe Health CEO. "The accreditation from CIHQ further solidifies our commitment to quality care for our families, friends and neighbors."
Established in 1999, CIHQ is a private organization dedicated to helping hospitals improve the quality of care rendered in their communities. CIHQ is approved by the Center for Medicare Services (CMS) to deem hospitals as meeting federal Conditions of Participation in Medicare.
