Avalanche training Jan. 13-16 at Mt. Rose Summit Highway
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Mount Rose Ski Patrol will offer avalanche training Jan. 13, 14, and 16, 2015 at the Mt. Rose Summit Highway, across from the summit parking lot area.
Training objectives and stations will cover transceiver and RECCO search, proper probe line set up and execution, snow pit/snow pack information and a search dog demonstration.
“We invite our regional responders every year to join us so that we can all participate together and refresh our outdoor rescue and safety protocols” says Captain Bruce Hicks, who coordinates this annual training. “This annual refresher training allows agencies to review, practice and participate in hands-on avalanche training drills utilizing practical scenario set ups that replicate rescue situations.”
In the event of extreme weather or unforeseen events, a training event/day may be canceled.
The Avalanche Training will be held 10a – 3p, on 1/13, 1/14, 1/16.
The training stations will occur in the order presented in the press release attached, with two 2-hour blocks 10a – 12p and 1p – 3p. The 10a – 12p block is usually has more attendance.
We had several questions about the search dog demonstration, that will typically be toward the end of each block. We will do our best to accommodate your needs however.
If you plan on attending let me know what day/time so we can be prepared. The best parking will of course be at the summit parking lot.
