Proposed two 4-plex apartments within Carson City’s Historic District
My name is Alexander Kirsch and I recently wrote the article, “Save the integrity of Carson City’s Historic District.”
First, I wish to thank all of you for your support during these many months. The proposed development project of two 4-plex apartments within Carson City’s Historic District weighs on our community.
When I’ve spoke with many property owners in the Historic District, I felt a deep connection between and among us. . We recognize and acknowledge that we live in Carson City for a reason and we chose this neighborhood because we liked its general character, with its open spaces, large old trees and the unique construction details of many of the old houses. We simply love it here!
Maintaining the character has not always been easy because we have had to deal with Historic Resources Commission guidelines and procedures, but many of us have done a tremendous job renovating and preserving our homes to turn this Historic District -- recently accepted in the National Registry of Historic Places -- into what it is today. We all can be proud of this achievement.
Since the time this development was proposed in 2010, many of my neighbors and I have not heard of any local community support for this project; in fact, the opposite is true. It then became our mission to convince City officials as well as the general public about the immediate impact approval of this project would have on Carson City and the precedent it would set. The majority of property owners of Carson City’s Historic District stand united in preserving the character and integrity of our neighborhood and oppose the proposed project.
This issue will be on the agenda during the Board of Supervisors Hearing session this tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 6:30 PM in the Sierra Room in the Community Center, 851 East William Street, Carson City, Nevada.
