We are proud to announce the first phase of the Mills Park Pickleball Court conversion project in Carson City is completed. As of Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the courts are open to the public.

This phase consists of four dedicated pickleball courts with permanent nets, installed on the westernmost of the two asphalt-base tennis courts.

Heading into the start of the work week, temperatures will be comparatively cool compared to last week with daytime highs near 55. The Greenhouse Project will be in the spotlight at a Carson City Democratic luncheon, plus fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and a Carson City Parks and Rec led full moon hike up Dead Truck Canyon. The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be hosting March's Full Moon Hike up Dead Truck Canyon on Prison Hill on Monday, March 9. This hike will feature the "Worm Moon," an abandoned 1950's truck and plenty of beautiful terrain.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt with millions of caches hidden worldwide; in fact, there are hundreds of them hidden right here in Carson City. This Saturday, Feb. 29, join the Park Rangers on an interactive adventure searching for three caches hidden within Riverview Park.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host its February Full Moon Hike this Saturday on the South end of Prison Hill. The hike will be a glow stick adventure featuring the "Snow Moon," Ghost Rock and plenty of beautiful terrain.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Heading into Thursday, today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Thank you law enforcement. In other happenings, events are lined up throughout the day including art showings, an open invitation to a meeting of the Carson City Natives and Newcomers Club, A Prison Hill open space planning open house hosted by Parks and Rec, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, the Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host January's Full Moon Hike on the Wild Horse Trail this Friday, Jan. 10. Not only will the hike feature some wild horses and the "Wolf Moon" it will also be a celebration of Carson City's first Winter Trails Day.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department host an open house to discuss planning efforts for the 2,500-acre Prison Hill Recreation Area and adjacent properties.

The countdown to Christmas is on as we head into the first day of the work week. Events around the capital city Monday include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, the first day kickoff of a Holiday Gift Making Camp at the Brewery Arts Center, a Carson River Trails Project open house hosted by Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a Carson City Democratic luncheon featuring a Bernie Sanders campaign presentation, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more.

Enjoying the mix of sunshine, clouds and the overall late fall conditions around the capital city? More of the same is expected Wednesday into Thursday, with another system due in time for the weekend. Activities around Carson City include an educational discussion on dementia presented by the Alzheimer's Association at the Carson City Library, a moonlight walk to C-Hill, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, a Carson Valley Community Theatre audition call for two plays, classes and more.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host an open house for the Carson River Trails Phase II Project.

The project is funded by a grant from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA), which will construct a non-motorized multi-use pathway on the east side of Prison Hill, through Silver Saddle Ranch, and along the Carson River through Buzzy’s Ranch connecting to Riverview Park.

Bundle up and join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space for another adventure under the full moon. December's full moon hike this Wednesday will not only feature the beautiful "Cold Moon," we will also be getting a unique vantage point of the city's holiday decorations from atop C-Hill.

Heading into Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019 activities around the capital city include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Leave No Trace hike and, later, a full moon hike hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec, a Carson City School District board meeting, the monthly gathering of the Carson Fly Fishing Club, pole fitness and swing dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

Join the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department this Tuesday, Nov. 12, for November's Full Moon Hike in the beautiful Kings Canyon area. While experiencing the sights and sounds of the night, a Park Ranger will be leading the group to the waterfall and around the North Kings Loop Trail.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

Come join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space department at Riverview Park this Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. for the second annual Costume Hike. This year, we will be walking along the Carson River at Riverview Park learning about the history of Halloween. It will be a fun-filled adventure with opportunities for prizes, learning, and great photo opportunities.

Bring water, excellent costumes, flashlights, and your excitement! Riverview Park is located at 600 Marsh Rd, Carson City.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its October Full Moon Hike up Prison Hill on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8:30 to 10 p.m., with the trail lit by the light of the moon.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, with the Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association and the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicle Commission, is sponsoring a volunteer Clean-Up Day at the Prison Hill Recreation Area in the OHV Area. The public is invited to come out and help.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. Heading into the first day of the work week, if you're an early, early riser or are settling in for the night, you'll want to step outside at around 3 a.m. for the peak of the Perseid shower, which will be in the eastern sky. If you missed them, there will be a viewing party hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec at the Jack C. Davis Observatory at WNC beginning at midnight Tuesday morning, August 13. Otherwise, it's onward and upward into the day with a Cooperative Extension presentation, Shred Kids mountain bike camp, Red Cross sitter certification class, West Coast swing dancing and more.

Calling all naturalists with a smartphone! Join the Carson City Parks, Rec & Open Space Department along with the Greenhouse Project to explore the citizen science app, iNaturalist, on an interactive and educational hike. Be a part of recording native plants and wildlife in Carson City in the ecologically diverse Rose Canyon (Foothill Garden & Trail).

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more.
