Senator Square: Family night added to homecoming week activities
The tradition of homecoming continues at Carson High School the week of Sept. 21-26 with events every day for students and the community to participate. The newest event added to the week of homecoming will be the addition of a family night.
We have changed our traditional "Open House" format to a Family Night that will be held on Sept. 25 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Parents and students are welcome to come and tour our Carson City campus at any time during this two hour block. Some examples of the activities we will be offering are:
1. Each subject area (i.e. English 1, Algebra, Biology etc.) will showcase their learning guides and have learning activities for visitors to engage in
2. Co-curricular classes (i.e. Band, Choir, ROTC etc.) will perform in various locations throughout the building
3. CTE (Career and Technical Education) classes will showcase individual student and CTSO projects
4. Parent University classes will be held for Career Cruising and the 1:1 Project
5. Resource tables will be set up in Senator Square for the Health Clinic, Nutrition Services, College Savings Plans of Nevada, etc.
The homecoming parade will immediately follow the Family Night at 6:30 and the homecoming game will start at 7 p.m. We will be providing a free hot dog dinner to families who attend the event and complete our "Family Night Passport."
Families will also be given free entry to the football game by visiting school booths and completing the passports. We hope to see everyone here that evening. For more information about family night, please feel free to contact the school at 283-1910.
New Entrepreneur Network
The New Entrepreneur Network started a club last year for students that included a lot of community business interaction and gave students some amazing business and entrepreneur opportunities. Due to the club’s immense success they have returned this year and will have its first introductory meeting on Wednesday, September 16 in the library at lunch. Pizza will be served. For more information about this program, please contact Jeff Glass at 775-222-0411.

Inauguration Trip
Regardless of who wins the Presidential Election in 2016, Carson High School students will be able to witness the swearing in of the new President in Washington, D.C. in January, 2017. Mrs. Golik, government teacher at CHS, is once again organizing the Inauguration trip for current sophomores and juniors at CHS.
This will be the third inauguration trip for Mrs. Golik with students from CHS. To learn more information about this trip and how your son or daughter can participate and be a witness to history, attend an informational parent night on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., in Senator Square. For more information, contact Mrs. Golik by email at agolik@carson.k12.nv.us.
Senior Spotlight
Carson High school is pleased to recognize Quinn Peterson as this week’s senior in the spotlight. Quinn has a GPA of 4.75 and is currently continuing his academic pursuits with a full load of classes, five of which are AP. Quinn is currently a member of Link Crew, National Honor Society, and Skills USA, where he competes in graphic design.
In addition to his outstanding academic work, Quinn is also very active in the Carson City community. He earned his Eagle Scout award at the age of 13, upgrading the habitat at Fremont Elementary School. Quinn is an accomplished pianist and currently is teaching piano to several students. He also plays the organ at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. Quinn has spent many hours over the last 8 years volunteering at Advocates to End Domestic Violence where he has participated in food drives and renovating houses.
Quinn plans to pursue his education at Brigham Young University, studying either mathematics or engineering.
We are proud of the contributions Quinn has made to Carson High School and our community and look forward to the future accomplishments of this talented student.
