Notice is hereby given that Carson City will conduct a public meeting and information session on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. (All meetings will be online, please see directions below), in order review the application process for the COIVD-19, CDBG-CV, II & III, State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) Program and to solicit citizen input on possible activities to be included in the application.

CARSON CITY — Time for golf! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club has officially teed it up for the 2020 golf season. SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older and all handicap levels. Dues are $80 which includes your membership and handicap posting in the Northern Nevada Golf Association GHIN service.

With the first day of school fast approaching, August 19, Carson City School District wants all students and parents to be aware of some important back-to-school information, event dates and the electronics policy at Carson High School effective this year.

Time for golf!! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club (SOSMGC) has officially teed it up for the 2019 golf season.

SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older, and all handicap levels. Dues are $75 and includes your membership and handicap posting in the Northern Nevada Golf Association GHIN service.

As a member, you are entitled to reduced green fees anytime you play Silver Oak in 2019. The season tees off on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. There will be coffee and donuts served opening day at 8 a.m. along with a short informational meeting.

Soroptimist International of Pinenut Valleys is a new Soroptimist club which will be forming to include the Carson Valley and Smith Valley areas. An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23rd at 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at El Aguila Real Mexican Restaurant, 1488 US Hwy 395, Gardnerville to introduce the exciting ways we work to improve life for women and girls.

Due to verified reports involving the likelihood of stray bullets entering into populated areas originating from the discharge of firearms at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, a temporary operating schedule was implemented along with the increased presence of Range Safety Officers made available by the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club, the city’s non-profit partner for the operation of the range.

Kicking off the work week we can expect cloud coverage today with a 30 percent chance of rain or snow showers after 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. CARSON CITY — In partnership with IPA LLC, Western Nevada College’s Community Education department is offering a new intensive eight-week bootcamp designed to give students the combination of HTML knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to sell basic web pages to real businesses.

Don't forget, although time is running out and divisions are filling up, it’s not too late to sign up for Carson City Parks and Recreation's Little Senators or Youth Basketball Program.

Homecoming Week is a fun-filled time at CHS with a frenzy of activities and celebrations to honor the high school and its students.

Hello Carson City, we are rounding third and headed into the weekend. Today is Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018. Among featured events include a morning coffee networking meeting, an afternoon hike, a spiritual conversation with a Hindu statesman at St. Paul's Lutheran Family Church, art showings and more.

If you are planning to enter the Nursing program or enroll in medical-related courses at Western Nevada College, attend an informational meeting on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Marlette Hall on the Carson City campus to get your required enrollment documents in order.

For the last several months, the Galaxy Theater has been playing a movie from yesteryear on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week’s ‘Flashback’ is the disco classic ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ in all its polyester glory. For those interested in a nursing career, Western Nevada College is hosting an informational meeting that will cover what can be expected for those enrolling in the educational program. Now that spring is more or less here, Carson City BMX is back on the track. You’ll find their races on Sunday mornings, but Wednesdays are for practice.

I just don’t have it in me to make an Ides of March pun, but I guess I could take a stab at it. There isn’t really anything to be wary of today, so head out with abandon. Band students from all the Carson City schools, elementary on up, will get together this evening for a grand performance. Band-o-Rama will take place in the ‘big’ gymnasium at Carson High; get there early if you want a good seat. Learn more about the Court Appointed Special Advocates at their informational meeting; more volunteers are always appreciated.

Our library didn’t just get a new coat of paint during the several weeks it was undergoing its ‘refresh.’ It was also creating space for makers. Several programs are in the works that will require the use of the new sewing machines, and you’ll need to get certified before you can participate. Drop in today or on Saturday and you’ll be ready for anything. Carolyn Dolan brings the blues to Living the Good Life, but if you want to take to the stage yourself, look for karaoke at Jimmy G’s Hookah Lounge or the new Bella Vita Bistro in the Carson Mall.

CARSON CITY — Tesla will host an informational meeting for high school seniors and their parents to learn more about career and training opportunities Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Carson High School Library.


Want to be a lawyer for a day? At CHS, with Mock Trial, it is possible. Mock Trial is Law and Order set in a simulated trial environment in a real courthouse with a real judge. The Carson High School Mock Trial team will meet professional attorneys and students around the state to compete Feb. 17 in Reno.

Tuesday has arrived, and that means a new stroll with Carson City Parks and Recreation. Today's Easy Walk is the Annual Art Tour, visiting eight galleries and exhibits downtown. If you can't join them on this excursion, just grab the new art walk map at the Carson Visitor's Center to make sure you don't miss anyone. Today also marks the beginning of the Nevada Day Treasure Hunt, an annual tradition that has history buffs and Nevada aficionados combing the grounds for the lucky medallion. TUESDAY:

So long, summer. Cozy sweaters, soft scarves, scarecrows, crunchy leaves underfoot, and pumpkin spice will soon take over. Sunday means football for the next few months, but for those looking for something else to do, read on.

SUNDAY:

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. Keep reading for more fun than you’ll know what to do with.

SATURDAY:

The excitement is intense and contagious at Carson High School as students strive to make sure they get a copy of this year’s award-winning Carneta yearbook, volume number 94.

A mere seven days of school are all that remain and students are focused on the conclusion of the 2015-2016 school year at Carson High. Everyone is wearing a smile even though more final exams are still to come.

As the weather moves from a beautiful spring to a hot summer, staying at home is simply out of the question, especially with two free performances of music and drama aimed at the community of Carson City. The Carson High School Orchestra and Concert Band will deliver “A Night with the Classics” at their annual spring concert on May 18, and CHS Theatre Arts presents The Taming of the Shrew (in the old west) on May 26.

The school year is winding down, which usually means the activities and excitement around Carson High amp up in direct proportion. There is also much nailbiting and desperate prayers as freshmen and sophomores take their End of Course exams, juniors and seniors finish taking their AP exams, and finals approach for all students.

Community members from all over Carson City are getting ready to evaluate the Senior Project portfolios and speeches of Carson High School’s 2015-2016 soon to be graduating class, and it is an unforgettable highlight for everyone involved.

It’s Monday, but this week should fly by. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, so you probably want to start thawing your bird. There are still many organizations collecting food for families, so consider dropping off a frozen turkey at Salvation Army, or something non-perishable in one of the many bins around town. If helping kids is a passion, you’ll want to attend the informational meeting at the office of the Court Appointed Special Advocates this evening. CASA is always looking for people who’d like to make a difference to a child.

MONDAY:

Do you want to build a snowman, Carson City? That may be ambitious with our first dusting of snow, but I’m sure you could finagle a snowball or two.
