FISH online food drive going on now in Carson City
With the economy improving, folks are not as focused on food bank donations, so Friends In Service Helping (FISH) is having to buy twice as much food as normal.
Many clients who had food stamps now have low paying jobs. They need help with food just to “break even” because they lost benefits, and rents have gone up, too.
As a result, FISH has started an on-line food drive, asking folks for $20, $50 and $100 online donations so we can purchase more food.
Let us do the shopping for you, since we get more by buying in bulk. Donate today on the web at: nvfish.com, or visit NVFISH on Facebook and Instagram.
— The U.S. Postal food drive occurs in May and normally provides enough food so we are stocked for four months or so. This year we got one-fourth the normal amount. With the technology shift in our community, we are introducing a more convenient way for people to donate using their phones.
— We have clients doing everything right (now employed, setting goals, etc.) and they are still back sliding.
— We want to continue to help those who are helping themselves.
— Includes families, veterans, and seniors on fixed incomes.
— Our bulk purchasing nets us 2-4 times more food for the dollar.
— Help us keep our neighbors engaged in the workforce, and help as they learn to go without food stamps.
— 100 percent of these donations will be used to stock our food banks.
— This is easier for you to track your tax-deductible donation.
— We need to get the word out that there is still a big need for food donations, and now it is easy to donate online.
