2015 National Night Out Carson City returns Tuesday to Mills Park
With the theme of violence prevention, Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host 13 years of community partnership with local agencies, groups and nonprofit organizations Tuesday at Mills Park with the 2015 National Night Out.
Returning this year after a last minute cancelation in 2014 because of heavy rain, this three hour annual family event is designed to bring children and their parents to the park for activities, music, information booths, demonstrations, hot dogs and refreshments. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.
“The event addresses crime prevention and public safety in the community with a special feature this year highlighting domestic violence and the role that Advocates to End Domestic Violence has in our community,” said National Night Out coordinator Lisa Davis. “Awareness and prevention are key and that is what this night is about. Making sure our community and families know where to turn to when crime happens.”
In 2014 the National Night Out organization served 16,000 communities worldwide, serving more than 32 million people.
Dozens of local nonprofit organizations, community agencies and groups such as the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, BLM, Nevada Department of Public Safety, Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Fire Department will be on hand offering games, demonstrations, face painting and prizes. More than 100 agencies and organizations are participating, with 31 new commitments added this year, said Davis.
National Night Out will also feature information booths for families and kids, including national finger print kits, home safety checklists, law enforcement demonstrations, helicopter displays. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will display its RAVEN helicopter as well Care Flight with one of its air ambulances.
“This event is an opportunity for the community to learn ways to prevent or reduce the risk of crime for themselves and property while having fun at the same time,” said Davis.
National night Out is paid for by Justice Assistance Grants, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and donations from local businesses. Sponsors are Grocery Outlet, Partnership Carson City, Northern Nevada Coin, Carson City Target Store, Sparks Target Store, ADT Security LLC, Carson City Downtown Business Association, Dan Kim Rock It Productions, Dave’s Supplies, CalNeva Towing, Casino Fandango, Elks Lodge #2177 and Emblem Club, Manny’s One Stop Shop, Valley Towing, American Family Insurance, Carson Now, The Spoke Bar and Grill, Jamba Juice, Economy Speed Press and Liz’s Biz.
