The Nature Conservancy in Nevada and Sierra Nevada Journeys will host a Family STEM Night and Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 at River Fork Ranch Preserve, 381 Genoa Lane, Minden.

Be swept away this Thanksgiving weekend when snowflakes, bonbons and sugarplum fairies come to life! Enjoy this magical performance with professional dancers Erica Chipp-Adams and Oliver Adams who will return to inspire audiences as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

All aboard the Halloween Fairytale Express. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, are bringing back the Halloween train ride at Mills Park in Carson City for Nevada Day weekend.

We'll also do a fun recycling craft! If you'd like to follow along at home, you'll just need four jars, a marker, paper and/or the template listed below under Attachments.

There are two delicious versions of this edible craft; here are the supplies you need: 1. bread, banana, nut butter, butter knife and chocolate chips or raisins; 2. graham cracker, large and small marshmallows, frosting, knife, scissors and chocolate chips or raisins.

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

While not illegal or encouraged, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is staffed up to make sure that whoever chooses to do anything non-sanctioned, including independent parading on Carson Street, that whatever they choose to do is done without breaking the law.

Carson City has been included as part of a nationwide drive-in movie project hosted by Walmart and held in parking lots across the country.

The Aviation Roundup Air Show is a community-oriented event that strives to bring an exciting and affordable family event to Douglas County.

The personnel and financial assets required to produce and host such a show are significant, and the air show would not be possible without the outstanding sponsors and amazing volunteers that work with us every year. We thank them again for making this show possible over the past years.

This Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13-15, the first Homestead Holidays at Silver Saddle Ranch, hosted by the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, will be bringing a free family event to the community with some good old-fashioned Christmas charm.

While it isn't quite Christmas-weather yet, I'm assuming at some point it will get cold and we can finally get into the upcoming holiday spirit! When that time comes, there are a ton of great Santa-related events going on in Carson City for you and the little ones to enjoy.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

Good day Carson City, we hope you are enjoying your Nevada Day weekend. It is Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019. Events around the capital city area include a post Nevada Day Trash Mob cleanup, a morning bike ride, Pow Wow activities at the MAC, the RSVP carnival at Mills Park as well as as tours of the Wungnema House, also in the park, Thomas the Train activities Virginia City and more. It will be a much cooler day weather wise, so dress warm. Enjoy.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more.
