Fire crews called to brush fire in northeast Washoe Valley area

UPDATE 7:08PM: Sierra Front reports the Brenda Fire that started Friday afternoon in the northeast end of Washoe Valley has grown to 1,200 acres.

UPDATE 6:47PM: Truckee Meadows Fire reports a re-opening on 395, but Eastlake is still closed.

UPDATE 6:13PM: KOLO reports that wild horses in the area are acting erratically and people are advised to watch out for them darting into the road. There are also large air tankers and single engine air tankers dumping retardant. There are two type one helicopters fighting the fire and two more are on order.

UPDATE 6:04PM: Sierra Front reports that an estimated 300 firefighters are on the Brenda Fire.

UPDATE 5:37PM: KOLO reports that there aren't any evacuations in the Andrew Lane area, but owners of animals are advised to act quickly and move them somewhere else immediately. Eastlake Boulevard is also closed.

UPDATE 5:31PM: Sierra Front reports the Brenda Fire has burned approximately 1,000 acres in the Eastlake Boulevard and Andrew Lane areas. 700 homes in those areas are being threatened.

UPDATE 4:57PM: Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says evacuations in effect on Eastlake Boulevard from Brenda Way to Spicer. Evacuees are being directed to Galena High School.

UPDATE 4:27PM: From Truckee Meadows Fire: Voluntary evacuations underway due to the Brenda Fire burning and threatening homes in northeast Washoe Valley. Residents evacuating can go to Galena High School.

Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports a brush fire in the northeast area of Washoe Lake, on Brenda Way off of Eastlake Boulevard.
The fire was reported at 3:17 p.m. and there are resources on scene, according to Sierra Front. The fire has grown to around 500 acres, according to Sierra Front.
Fire agencies on the fire include the Bureau of Land Management, Truckee Meadows Fire, the Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service.
Meanwhile, firefighters are also battling a 500 acre brush fire burning near Cold Springs. A Carson City brush unit was called to that fire.
