Wind doesn't deter visitors to Carson City Airport Open House
Blustery Nevada winds tested the mettle of temporary shelters set up on the tarmac at the Carson City Airport's annual Open House event Saturday, but they did not deter a large crowd of morning visitors who came to partake in the festivities.
"Carson City Airport and its partners are proud to offer such an outstanding, free event to our community," said Carson City Airport General Manager Tim Rowe.
The open house started at 8 a.m. Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association.
The day-long festival celebrating flight runs until 4 p.m. today, featuring modern and vintage military aircraft displays, drone and flight demonstrations, fly-bys and vintage bomber rides, as well as interactive flight and aerospace activities.
Other kid-friendly events include a bounce house, face painting, paper airplane contests, and balsa wood model airplane building.
The Carson City Airport Open House highlights the importance of aviation and aerospace for Carson City and Nevada’s economy, Rowe said.
"Our community is surrounded by numerous aviation and aerospace focused organizations, companies and manufacturers that are genuinely interested in educating our youth in the fields of aviation and aerospace," he said.
Numerous vintage and modern military aircraft graced the tarmac Saturday morning at the Carson City Airport, including a P-51 Mustang, the B-25 bomber "Tootsie," A-26 Bomber, a World War II era carrier-based torpedo bomber, T-6 Texan, T-33 Shooting Star, F-86 Sabre Jet, OV-10 Bronco, as well as the twin-bladed U.S. Navy CH-46 Sea Knight and U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters, which were open for tours.
