Carson City Sheriff's Office adopts cash-strapped cat shelter to benefit from motorcycle competition
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit has adopted Catmandu as this year’s 13th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge (Black Cat 13) charity. The Motor Unit will be raising funds through t-shirt sales and donations at the event scheduled for June 24-25 at Mills Park.
According to Linda Buchanan who founded Catmandu, “We are not just another shelter. Our cats live in a homey, cage-free environment designed to meet their needs. Catmandu provides a cage-free group home environment that heals and rehabilitates the kitties that come to us. A frightened, stressed cat comes in; a happy, trusting, and calmer cat leaves”.
Catmandu is funded entirely by donations, adoption fees, and sales from their gift shop. They depend completely on the support of the community for day to day operations. The more assistance that they receive from donations and volunteers, the more they are able to do. Buchanan adds that they are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.
Catmandu was established by Linda in early 2014 and nearly closed its doors recently which caught the attention of the Motor Unit as showing compassion for pets and other animals is just one of the many components that sets us apart. In 2015, Catmandu adopted out 340 cats.
