Police lieutenant to give tools for avoiding online danger at upcoming Carson City forum

RENO — A total of 12 Nevada Guard Soldiers and Airmen departed Nevada on Friday morning aboard a Nevada Air Guard C-130 cargo plane and are en route to Puerto Rico to assist with the disaster relief after Hurricane Maria struck the territory last week.

Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a proclamation declaring this Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 as Nevada’s inaugural “Public Lands Day.” Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate with a “fee-free” day at all Nevada’s State Parks. Fees, including entrance, camping, and boating will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

An adult male pedestrian was killed Friday morning in a vehicle accident that happened in the area of State and Long streets, according to Carson City emergency personnel on scene.

Carson City area casinos saw a gaming revenue increase of nearly 9 percent in August compared to the same time last year, according to figures released Friday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Wednesday night to the 3500 block of Highway 50 East near the Phillips Motel and Mobile Home Park for a travel trailer on fire.

UPDATE 446PM: Forward progress on the three fires has stopped and no other fire department engines will be needed. There's a total of 1/2-acre that has burned with firefighters now mopping up the hotspots, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
