Carson City arrests: Two tied to stolen vehicle jailed

Two Carson City men were arrested Thursday for felony charges related to a stolen vehicle and license plates, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Michael Orta, 43, and Donald Ray Morrow, 28, were taken into custody at 9:14 a.m. after a search warrant was granted at a residence in the 1500 block of Gregg Street. The warrant was issued after vehicle plates from a 2012 Kia returned as stolen and deputies saw both men enter the residence.

Orta faces felony charges of habitual criminal, and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. Bail: $100,000. Morrow faces charges of habitual criminal, possession of stolen property and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation: Bail: $103,000.

In other arrests:
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday morning for a felony burglary warrant issued out of Douglas County and a misdemeanor failure to appear contempt of court warrant out of Carson City.
Charles Donald Muscott was taken into custody in the area of Silver Oak and North Carson Street.

According to the arrest report, deputies were sent to the area in reference to a domestic dispute. Deputies located Muscott as a rear seat passenger in a vehicle leaving the scene. A computer check showed him to have the two confirmed warrants. Bail: $11,000.

— 35-year-old Turlock, Calif., man was arrested Thursday, 8:56 p.m. in the area of I-580 and Arrowhead for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and failing to signal.

According to the arrest report, deputies assigned to the Tri-County Gang Unit were patrolling the area and paced two motorcycles going 100 mph. Both motorcycles continued on for a distance while flashing lights and sirens were going before one motorcycle stopped and the other took off at a high rate of speed.

A deputy made contact with the rider who stopped and asked him why he failed to stop. He said he did not see the red and blue lights and did not hear the siren until he stopped, the arrest report states.

He was asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages. The man replied he had two Jack and Cokes and a beer. He was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests and he agreed showing signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .09. He agreed to a blood test at jail. Bail: $1,917.

— A 77-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 10:27 p.m. in the area of Curry and 10th Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, dispatch called a deputy to the area of Curry and Koontz for a report of a vehicle driver possibly under the influence. The deputy located the vehicle at Curry and 10th street and observed the driver moving left of center with his left vehicle blinker activated.

The deputy made a traffic stop and could smell alcohol coming from the driver. He told the deputy he had a few cocktails. The man refused all portions of standardized field sobriety tests. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .260 and later consented to evidentiary breath tests of .197 and .210.

Discovered in the man’s belongings at jail was several loose Trazadone pills in which the man said he did not have a prescription for. Bail: $3,637.

— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 12:11 a.m. in the 3000 block of Green Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a residence for a report of domestic battery. The 35-year-old male subject at the home had a confirmed contempt of court warrant.

Deputies spoke with the female at the residence who admitted she had slapped the man during an argument. She said the man did not hit her and freely admitted she hit him on the back, the arrest report states. The man was asked if the argument was physical and he said it had not. Bail for man for the contempt of court warrant: $500. Bail for the 34-year-old woman for suspicion of domestic battery: $3,137.

— An 18-year-old Carson City woman, Jamie Louise Hardiman, was arrested Thursday, 6:08 p.m. in the area of North Minnesota and West Robinson for a felony probation violation through Juvenile Court. She’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing. A 24-year-old man with her was also arrested for a misdemeanor violation of pre-trial supervision warrant and misdemeanor obstructing. Bail: $3,402.

— A 45-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 7:22 a.m. in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 5:12 p.m. in the area of Carson and Long Street for misdemeanor warrants, violation of a suspended sentence and contempt of court. Bail: $3,304.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
