Carson City arrests: Man jailed for Wednesday crash that sent 1 to hospital via Care Flight

A Dayton man was arrested for suspicion of reckless driving causing injury and attempted escape following a 3-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday morning, sending one person to the hospital via Care Flight.

The 30-year-old Dayton man was arrested at 10:21 a.m., nearly two hours after the crash that happened in the area of College Parkway and Research Way. The reckless driving causing injury charge was a misdemeanor offense while the attempted escape charge is a gross misdemeanor.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called just after 8:30 a.m. to a traffic accident involving 3 vehicles at the intersection of College Parkway and Research Way. Injuries were reported and one person was flown by Care Flight. Go here for coverage of the crash. The injured person's condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of one of the vehicles involved, a Dodge Stratus, said he was driving east on College Parkway when he hit a black Volkswagen. He stated he remembered the traffic light was flashing "orange" but he couldn't remember much after the accident. He refused medical attention from Carson City paramedics on scene, the arrest report states.

Witnesses to the crash said they had seen the Dodge Stratus traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. Based on witness statements, the man was allegedly driving reckless and caused the accident, the report states. Deputies also learned that the man had failed to pull over and was fleeing from the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The man was taken into custody and transported to Carson City Jail. During the booking process the man said his left knee was hurting. He was taken to the hospital. As deputies stood outside a small room near the ER exit, the man got up and started running in an attempt to escape. Deputies stopped him from running and escorted him back into the room, according to the arrest report. Bail: $3,637.

— A 31-year-old transient was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of providing false information to an officer to avoid arrest, and three contempt of court warrants, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Ryan Lee Hammond was taken into custody at 7:27 p.m. in the 200 block of West Caroline. According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team deputy observed Hammond and a woman walk across the street without using a cross walk.

The deputy stopped the pair and asked the man if he had an identification card. The man replied he did not and identified himself with a name and birthdate and with a social security number. He attempted to use another name of a person.

A deputy located the man's proper identification after the woman consented to a search of her purse. The picture on the identification card looked like the male the deputy was speaking with. The officer asked the man who Ryan Hammond was, and the suspect said it was his twin brother.

The deputy then asked how the birthdate that he provided earlier and that one on the identification were different if they were twin brothers. The man then stated the name he gave the officer was, instead, his older brother.

The deputy ran the correct name of the suspect through dispatch which returned with three active misdemeanor warrants out of Douglas County for contempt of court. He was taken into custody for giving the officer wrong identification to avoid arrest, jay walking and the three misdemeanor bench warrants. Bail amount listed: $11,572.

— A 29-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 8:31 p.m.in at a Village Drive residence for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies met with a couple at their residence and learned the woman was upset and had gotten into a physical altercation with her boyfriend. Deputies noted the residence was in disarray when they arrived.

The woman admitted to being angry at and hit her boyfriend in the chest and bit him. She stated the male half never became physically violent toward her and had only attempted to restrain her while defending himself. The male half stated he restrained the woman who attempted to swallow a bottle of medication and was bit in the arm. Bail: $3,137.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Thursday morning in the area of William Street and Gold Dust Way for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving without a valid license and failure to obey a traffic control device.

According to the arrest report a deputy made a traffic stop after being advised of a vehicle that was seen swerving in its travel lane and failed to stop behind the white stop line at a traffic light at the I-580 overpass and William Street.

The officer made contact with the driver and asked her if she had been drinking. The woman replied she had 2 vodka cranberry drinks at approximately 10 p.m. The deputy could smell "an intense" odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.

The woman's speech was slurred. She submitted to standardized field sobriety test in which she could not complete them satisfactorily. At jail she provided evidentiary breath samples of .153 and .166. Bail: $1,416.
