What Works: Celebrate your milestones
In life, we think of milestones as birthdays or anniversaries. Children’s birthdays are celebrated with great fanfare. The house is packed with kids. There are gifts and cake galore. And the inevitable challenge of ‘how many kids will a bounce house hold’ is issued and met. Celebrations are enablers of joy, hope, and excitement. Here’s a novel idea. Wouldn’t it be cool to celebrate life achievements like kids get to celebrate birthdays?
Sure, celebrating 20 pounds of weight loss, a promotion, or a personal milestone of traveling to all 50 states with a cake and a bounce house might be a bit much. But some celebration to reward a job well done is warranted now and then. As adults, sometimes we don’t allow ourselves that simple pleasure. Think about it. How often do we pause in life to recognize when we have made a significant stride? When do we pat ourselves on the back for a job well done? If celebrating your successes isn’t part of your regular modus operandi, I challenge it’s time to start.
What could you celebrate right now if you were given the opportunity? Maybe it’s the launch of a new product. Perhaps you were given an award. Or maybe you weren’t given an award, but did something in your community or circle of friends that made a difference. Celebrating milestones is a great way to encourage further forward momentum in life and business. No, I’m not saying pull together a potluck every time your sales team exceeds quota. But, a pat on the back, high five, smile, or even doing a ‘happy dance’ all go a long way and encourage progress.
Here are some small ways to celebrate the positive outcomes in your life. How many more can you list?
1) Go to lunch or dinner with the people who helped you succeed.
2) Treat yourself to a dessert or small gift.
3) Tell yourself how awesome you are. Yes, sometimes you even have to remind yourself you are a rock star.
4) Do a happy dance. (No matter how silly this sounds, kicking up your heels a little is fun!)
5) Show appreciation to your team. Verbal affirmation to others who helped you along the way fosters good vibes all around.
What successes and milestones are you celebrating today? Tell me about it in the comments below and I will celebrate with you! The floor is yours, Carson City!
