Carson City Community Development to hold block grant applicant presentations
Carson City will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 2 to hear presentations from applicants for the Fiscal Year 2025, July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, Community Development Block Grant.
The hearing will be held at the Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. The July 2 hearing begins at 8:30 a.m.
The Application Review Workgroup will also ask the applicants questions. Carson City citizens are invited to attend and provide input during public comment.
Carson City is a CDBG Entitlement grantee and receives funding directly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City has received $353,923 to allocate for FY 2025 grants, $58,987 of which may be awarded to public service projects.
Eligible activities include public facility and public improvement projects, public service programs, planning studies, economic development business assistance and microenterprise activities. Eligible activities must meet at least one of the following three national objectives:
— 1. Benefit 51% or more of low to moderate-income persons.
— 2. Aid in the prevention or elimination of slum or blight.
— 3. Address a recent, urgent community development need.
Carson City has identified five additional objectives for CDBG eligibility. Eligible applicants must meet at least one of the following five Carson City objectives:
— Construct ADA, compliant sidewalks.
— Improve access to public facilities.
— Provide supportive services to low- to moderate-income households.
— Reduce blight in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods and/or code enforcement.
— Provide mental health and/or substance abuse services.
Carson City has received applications from ten applicants. Each applicant will present a 5-minute presentation to the ARWG and answer questions from the ARWG. Public comment will be accepted.

Note: This hearing is open to the public but is not subject to the Nevada Open Meeting Law because the hearing does not constitute a “meeting” of a “public body” as those terms are defined in NRS 241.015.
