Carson City Sheriff's Office busts mobile methamphetamine lab late Friday

Three men were arrested late Friday night at 11:41 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmunds Drive in Carson City on multiple felony offenses, including the manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (meth) and conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act, the arrest report from the Carson City Sheriff's Office said.

According to Carson City Sheriff's deputies, Jonathan Denning of Carson City, Jeremy Fogelson of Gardnerville and Frazier Young of Reno were taken into custody after Street Enforcement Team (SET) units patrolling the area for potential drug offenses had observed the three suspects in a sedan that remained stationary for several minutes.

Law enforcement then approached the vehicle and made contact with the suspects, the report said, informing them that parking lots were common venues for drug-related crimes.

The suspects denied any drugs were in their vehicle and consented to a search, the report said. A K-9 unit was called in to assist and the exterior sniff indicated a positive alert by the K-9 officer.

The suspects were informed of the possibility of narcotics inside their vehicle, and a further search was consented to.

A comprehensive search of the vehicle's interior revealed a bag containing a digital scale with white crystallized residue on it, the arrest report stated. This residue was tested and returned presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

The suspects then admitted to using meth about two hours earlier, the report said, but each denied ownership of the scale found during the search.

Deputies also searched the vehicle's trunk, the arrest report said, where a glass pipe with a burnt bulb end on it was found inside of a black metal container. The end of the pipe was also found to have a white powdery substance on it.

Additional white crystallized substances were located next to the pipe. The discovered substances were tested and returned presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

Also found in the trunk was a black backpack containing a strong odor of toxic chemical fumes when unzipped, the report said. The scents of ammonia, cat urine and rotten-egg sulfur stench were strong and evident from the backpack.

Several containers of household chemicals and a bottle containing an unknown liquid substance, the report said, were also found inside the backpack.

The chemicals and odors discovered inside the backpack were recognized as a possible methamphetamine lab, the arrest report stated.

Deputies cordoned off the area around the sedan and all persons were moved outside of its perimeter as the Carson City Fire Department's Hazardous Materials team was called in to assist, the report said.

Fogelson, the driver of the sedan, admitted to having knowledge of the meth lab in the backpack, the arrest report said, and stated it belonged to Young, who brought it with him to Carson City from Reno.

Fogelson admitted to getting his methamphetamine supply from Young in exchange for providing the latter with transportation.

Haz-Mat personnel on scene had removed two bottles of antifreeze, a bottle of drain opener, a bottle of premium blend fuel, a bag of Iodine Tinture, bundle of lithium battery shavings, and a bottle containing an unknown acid liquid.

The fire department notified law enforcement that common indicators of individuals cooking meth included chemical burn scars and dirty cracked finger tips.

All three suspects in the sedan had burn scars and dirty cracked finger tips, the arrest report said.

Fogelson, Young and Denning were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Carson City Jail where they were booked on $40,000 bail each.

All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information.
