Carson City flood update: Road closures remain as river levels continue to rise
As Carson City wakes to clean streets and soggy backyards, city employees have been hard at work throughout the night and will continue Monday to provide damage assessment, debris removal and clean up.
Temperatures have dropped steadily overnight and the river continues to rise.
On Monday morning there are four identified road closures, city crews are actively working to resolve. Public Works and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space crews worked over the last 24 hours to reduce the number of flood hazards from over one hundred to fewer than six.
Currently, the following roads are closed: Fermi Road, Morgan Mill Road, Center Drive and Curry Street.
According to the National Weather Service the river will crest below the 2005 flood stage and Carson City will see periods of unsettled weather, including rain and snow, through Wednesday.
This may create additional hazards and road closures. We encourage drivers to exercise caution as road conditions can quickly change.
Please be watchful of City crews working as they continue to mitigate and assess storm damage.
As a result of the declared State of Emergency in Northern Nevada, City offices are closed Monday, Jan. 9 as staff is reassigned to storm-related duties.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, Municipal and District Courts and Juvenile Services will remain open.
