Carson City School Board to decide on final budget, capital improvements tonight
The Carson City School Board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 28, at the Carson City Community Center.
Trustees will decide on the final budget for the 2025 school year, as well as the revised Capital Improvement Plan.
The total cost to operate the district each year includes estimated expenditures of $145 million across 22 governmental fund types, as well as three propriety funds with estimated expenses of $2 million.
The projected general fund ending balance on June 30, 2025 is estimated to be $10.2 million.
Funding for the district comes from tax resources ($1.34 million) as well as state education funding ($87.8 million), in addition to the opening fund balance of $19.4 million which totals $108.5 million.

The Capital Improvement Plan sets out facility upgrades and builds for the upcoming year. These include landscaping upgrades, solar maintenance, asphalt maintenance, roofing maintenance, and more.
Individual schools will also receive projects. Bordewich Bray will have remodels in their bathroom, special ed classrooms and boiler rooms.
Carson High will be getting a number of upgrades including HVAC upgrades for $5 million, replacement of the gym bleachers, perimeter fencing and safety upgrades, a remodel of the chemistry room, restroom remodels, and more.
Eagle Valley Middle School will be getting a new outdoor shade structure, while Carson Middle School will be having bathroom remodels and upgrades to staff parking.
Empire Elementary School will be getting a new roof, while Seeliger and Fritsch will be getting new Pre-K playgrounds.

In addition, trustees will discuss proposed policy changes for school nutrition services.
Elementary math curriculum is set to be adopted for the next year as budgeted, as well as secondary health curriculum.
