Nevada has earned a reputation over the years for ranking at the bottom of all the wrong health care lists. But Nevadans have grown increasingly frustrated over the past few days at the fact that the Silver State is both receiving and administering fewer doses per capita than almost every other state in the nation.

Gov. Steve Sisolak told Nevadans experiencing some of their darkest hours of economic and public health devastation that he has a plan to create more than 165,000 jobs over the next decade, launch new initiatives to retrain displaced workers and build out an economy based on clean energy, blockchain and other futuristic technologies.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is proposing a two-year budget that reverses cuts to Medicaid and other key K-12 programs made last summer, after financial projections left the state at what officials are calling an “inconsistent, if not positive, ending point” for tax revenue.

RENO — With much of the State of Nevada listed as in extreme drought, Nevadans are facing forecasts for a mild winter, with little precipitation since the rainy season started. With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.

Nevada is moving to a new COVID-19 vaccination strategy that will allow the state to distribute doses to essential workers and priority segments of the population in tandem.

Federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency have been awarded to jurisdictions in the state of Nevada for Phase 38. The eligible spending period for Phase 38 is January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The following is a list of the awards for northern Nevada jurisdictions (counties) including Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe.

MINDEN — After consultation with the Douglas County Officials, the Towns, public safety agencies, and Douglas County Emergency Management it was determined in-person public holiday events at the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden, as well as the 25th Annual Parade of Lights hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce have been cancelled.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti has appointed David Fogerson as Administrator of the DPS, Division of Emergency Management. Fogerson’s appointment is effective Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health announced Friday the submission of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Playbook for Statewide Operations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Items for discussion include new shade structures in the downtown area, grant funding for fuel reduction, surplus city funding, and more.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is urging patience with the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, promising that the state is attempting to balance its fight against the disease with a desire to reopen businesses and begin repairing the state economy.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Tuesday that with the goal of helping Nevadans facing unemployment due to the global pandemic, Governor Sisolak gave the authorization for Nevada to start the application process to participate in the Lost Wages Assistance Program created by President Donald Trump under Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office said he is disappointed that there’s no legislation to extend unemployment benefits that are fully paid by the federal government, and that the state is analyzing the cost of an executive order President Donald Trump announced this weekend calling for states to pay a portion of a $400-per-week add-on.

MINDEN, Nev. — Following a controversial letter from its sheriff regarding the Black Lives Matter movement and a proposed diversity statement agenda item that was to be considered by the county's library board, Douglas County says it is actively preparing for a planned protest at the Judicial Law Enforcement Center this Saturday.

CARSON CITY — Undeterred by nation’s prevailing real-world biological hazard of coronavirus, the Nevada National Guard’s 92nd Civil Support Team was declared fully trained and validated by U.S. Army North evaluators at the conclusion of the “Quenching Steel” exercise July 23 here in the Silver State’s capital. The results of the evaluation were released July 24.

In keeping with its commitment to protect customers and the environment from the threat of natural disasters, NV Energy is working to improve situational awareness of fire and other weather-related threats by installing wildfire cameras and weather stations in natural disaster risk zones across its service territory.

Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered the first major rollback of the state’s business reopening plan amid the COVID-19 pandemic by ordering bar closures in counties with spiking caseloads and limiting restaurant dining to parties of no more than six people.

UPDATE 3:58PM: Smith Valley Fire Protection District reports that the fire is looking much better and that the fire behavior is more favorable this afternoon. SVFPD reports that the threat to Lyon County is much diminished from this morning. Lyon County will continue to monitor the fire and keep you informed of any changes.

Lyon County Emergency Management has been notified by the Smith Valley Fire Protection District that there is a possibility that the Numbers Fire could spread to Lyon County in the Smith Valley, Wellington area.

Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports Wednesday that the #NumbersFire southeast of Gardnerville has grown to 20,500 acres. The Bureau of Land Management reports a lower figure, 18,000 acres, with 5 percent containment, or a fuel break around the fire.

The Nevada Division of Emergency Management is pleased to name Cassandra Darrough as DEM's Tribal Coordinator, helping with emergency management support for Nevada’s 27 federally-recognized Tribal Nations in close collaboration with Nevada Indian Commission.

Governor Steve Sisolak received notification from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program Commission that the State of Nevada has achieved reaccreditation. This achievement was approved through a rigorous and voluntary assessment process coordinated through the Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management, Homeland Security. The State was notified of the approval last week.

CARSON CITY — Through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Nevada will be deploying 35 crisis counselors statewide to support Nevadans coping with the effects of COVID-19. The program will focus on a population health approach that encourages healthy coping and active management of stressors, building resiliency and fostering compassion.
