Carson City parks foundation pick Friends of Silver Saddle, Cinderlite as 2020 Community Award recipients
Periodically, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses for having made notable contributions to our community and for their support of the Foundation’s and Carson City Parks Department’s missions by selecting them to receive a Community Award. FCCPR’s Board of Directors recently selected Friends of Silver Saddle and Cinderlite Trucking Corporation and Materials (Cinderlite) for this year’s Community Awards.
Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch (FOSSR) was selected as the 2020 "Organization of the Year," because of their continuing contributions to Carson City's quality of life through the promotion of the ranch as a public resource, their willingness to pitch in and assist with events, in particular with the annual "Afternoon at the Silver Saddle Ranch" Jazz and Beyond Festival event, their open houses, and, most recently, their sponsorship of what is hoped to be an annual "Homestead Holiday" event.
Working with FOSSR representatives planning events for the Foundation and for other organizations, the FCCPR board consistently found them to be a "can do" organization, always willing to step-up and pitch in to make every event at the Silver Saddle Ranch a success. It was further acknowledged that had there been an "Organization of the Years" category, FOSSR would be deserving of such, as their contributions to our quality of life have been consistent over the years since their establishment in 1991.
The FCCPR board also selected locally owned and operated Cinderlite as this year’s “Business of the Year” as an expression of FCCPR’s appreciation for Cinderlite’s significant contributions and support of a Foundation partner project, the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Complex.
Cinderlite has been in Carson City since the mid-1980s and remains a family enterprise. Over the years, they have been active in, and supportive of, our community. In particular, Cinderlite contributed to the building of the new Carson Ridge Disc Golf Complex through generously donating delivery of materials as well as sponsoring a hole at the complex.
As has been the case with previous Community Award recipients, Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, Cinderlite, and the previously announced Volunteer of the Years, the late Sandy Osheroff, will have their names engraved on the "Community Wall of Honor." The wall is located off the Seeley Loop in Mills Park on the plaza near the entry to the Teixeira Pavilion. A ceremony recognizing the 2020 additions to the Wall of Honor is currently scheduled to take place at the wall at 5:30pm, Friday, September 18, 2020.
The “Partner With Your Parks” event initially planned to be tied to the Foundation’s Community Awards ceremony has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for 2021.
In other Foundation business, David Johnson was elected to an additional term as the Foundation’s President, Gregg Swift was elected Vice President, and Lori Bagwell and David Bugli were re-elected to the offices of Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
