Wellness Clinic Vaccinates 73 Pets
Pets of the Homeless wellness veterinary clinic at FISH on Saturday, May 20, was a success. Genevieve Frederick, founder of Pets of the Homeless and sponsor of the clinic, announced that 73 pets where seen and are now safe from infectious diseases. Dr. Gary Ailes of Sierra Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Mike Pulver of Timberline Animal Hospital and his staff, and Dr. David Kowalek and Dr. Micaela Kowalek of the Humane Society provided services.
Clients left with pets fully vaccinated as well as with pet food, collars, leashes, and other supplies.
Ten free spay/neuter vouchers were given to clients. Pets of the Homeless will pay for the hard costs of the surgeries thanks to the generosity of the veterinarians.
Dr. Pulver said, “Timberline Animal Hospital was pleased to be able to give back to the community in this way. This was the third year we have participated and we look forward to the event again next spring.”
Jim Peckham, executive director of FISH donated the facilities for the morning as well as provided pet food that Pets of the Homeless Donation Sites in Carson City took to the food bank before the event. Collection of pet food and supplies by Donation Sites is a year round effort to help low income and homeless feed their pets. Donation Sites can be found at www.petsofthehomeless.org
About Pets of the Homeless:
Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human-animal bond which is very important in the lives of many homeless. They find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Our task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
