Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) has announced its COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Program, which provides one-time funding to rural Nevada residents experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program provides financial assistance to qualifying individuals who are falling behind on their rent, mortgage or utilities.

CARSON CITY — The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, Nevada Medicaid, announced steps taken to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including expanded access to telehealth.

The Red Hat Society delivered warm bedding and clothing to each of the residents at Richards Crossing in Carson City last week. A local chapter of the Red Hat Society named the “Classy Sassy Bear Ladies” organized a Christmas gift giveaway for the residents. The giveaway, for which planning started over the summer, collected homemade and donated blankets, scarves and socks.

During October, Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City held a pet food drive to fill a pickup for the national nonprofit Pets of the Homeless.

The activities continue, albeit at a slower place for the first day of the work week. There's art showings and activities for adults and kids, a My Place Hotels job fair, a talk featuring the program director at Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a swing dance class and more. The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, program director at Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). A 501(c)(3) non-profit, RSVP has a 43-year record of service to the elderly and other citizens in need of assistance in all 15 of Nevada's rural counties. Volunteers 55 and older are provided meaningful opportunities to draw on their lifetime of experience to serve their communities in a variety of settings.

The budget for the Community Support Services Grant was finalized at the most recent Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting, which allocated nearly $400,000 of grant funding for various programs helping our local communities such as helping homebound seniors, dental care for local youth, emergency shelter for domestic violence victims and more.

Nevada Urban Indians is set to open a clinic in Carson City on Winnie Lane in the beginning of June, which will be offering substance abuse treatment programs, suicide prevention treatment, medicinal clinic days, and more.

Tucked inconspicuously into the iStorage business park off U.S. Highway 50 East in Carson City is the Northern Nevada Dream Center, a local non-profit known for helping meet the essential needs of low income individuals.

CARSON CITY — Richards Crossing is a 39-unit affordable housing development for the homeless and extremely low income individuals. The facility is a little over a year-old and centrally located a couple blocks from N. Carson Street near W. Winnie Lane, an easy walk to the CVS and Grocery Outlet, and every resident gets a free bus pass, so the nearby JAC bus stop enables shopping at Walmart and other destinations.
