Tonight, Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m., the Brewery Arts Center and Michael Tedesco will be hosting a city wide unique take on the classical caroling holiday tradition called Unsilent Night, an international event created by Phil Kline.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center's 2nd Annual Dream Christmas Toy Drive is in full swing and still taking donations of new, unwrapped toys for children age 0-18 through Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Most need items include board games, gift cards, makeup, craft supplies and room decor for teen girls and boys.

The 9th Annual Progressive Summit is a time for our community to come together to discuss current issues, strengthen movements, and learn how to achieve real progressive victories. On Saturday and Sunday, January 21 and 22, 2023 we will be hosting our two-day Progressive Summit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Again, we’re hosting this event virtually, streamlining the process and keeping us all safe from COVID-19. The Carson City Cinema Club presents “20K Leagues Under the Sea” (1954) on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (511 West King Street-the old Catholic church).

Doors open at 5:30 pm; after film trivia and discussion the film will begin at 7:00.

The final 2022 events for Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College are set for this weekend, Dec. 16-17. The premier facility in Northern Nevada to get up close and personal with the moon, stars and planets is hosting two Mike Thomas lectures and a Star Party.

The Salvation Army Carson City Corps provides gifts for children every year at Christmas. This year, the Corps is in particular need of gifts for teenagers and is seeking the community’s help.

“We are in particular need of items for teenagers — things like clothes, gift cards, sports equipment, makeup, jewelry and advanced LEGO sets,” said Captain Holly Beeson, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army. “At this point, we do not have enough gifts to distribute at Christmas for these local children.”

The Nevada State Police invites the Northern Nevada community to a “Cram the Cruiser” toy drive happening this Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Reno Nevada Highway Patrol Office, 357 Hammil Lane in Reno.

Nevada State Police troopers and officers will be collecting toy donations for children in need in our community. Refreshments will be provided as troopers attempt to "Cram the Cruiser" with gifts.

GreenUP!, a non-profit working with businesses to reduce waste, announced that several Green Dining restaurants will host a charity drive in partnership with FISH – Friends In Service Helping, a non-profit that provides wrap-around social services to community members in need.

The charity drive will run from Dec. 15 through Dec. 25.

The location for Carson City Symphony Association's "Violin and Piano House Recital" on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2 p.m., has been changed due to icy conditions at the original venue. The afternoon of music, conversation, wine, and dessert with Brian Fox, violin, and Eric Kao, piano, will be at 191 Heidi Circle, Carson City.

Kids 16 and under are invited to come in a find gifts for the whole family for only $5. A special section in the shop will be set up for kids to purchase gift items $5 and under plus we will be offering free gift wrapping for the kid's gift purchases. This event happening all day on Friday, Dec. 16 from 11am-6pm at MidTown Marketplace, located at 104 Corbett St in Carson City.

Save the date and make your plans for a great evening of food, music, raffles and a famous silent auction all to benefit local children at the annual Denim & Diamonds fundraiser for Austin's House.

Austin’s House is a private non-profit dedicated to providing high-quality emergency shelter and services for abused and neglected children in northern Nevada. Each year, the House holds its annual fundraiser to provide much-needed funds for its annual operating budget.

The Carson City Elks Club is throwing a farewell party for longtime Carson City resident and character Jim Smolenski on Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Those who know "Smo" are welcome to come celebrate his moving to Arizona. Bring a potluck dish and stories to share.

The Carson City SDA Church Food Pantry presents "A Caring and Sharing Christmas Concert" to benefit the pantry.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will be turning on the Homestead Holiday decoration lights for the remainder of this week for people to come out and enjoy! Vaccinations often make headlines, but rarely the Polio vaccine. You can learn why it is still important at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting.

Rotary Polio Plus District Chair Phillip Mahoney will be the guest speaker at the meeting, which takes place at noon, Tuesday, Dec. 13 in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 West King Street in Carson City. The public is welcome to attend. The presentation will cover both the past and present status of polio, vaccines and the different forms of the virus.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Librarian Joy Holt, who assumed the position on October 1st after serving several months as acting director. Her predecessor, Tod Colegrove, is now dean of the Albertsons Library at Boise State.

During the chaperoned trip, students will learn about U.S. history and how it influences society today.
