Carson City Living Nativity continues Sunday
The manger is ready, and costumes have been fitted. The Living Nativity is awaiting visitors to walk or drive through again on Sunday, Dec. 11, 6:30-8:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
This will be the 21st annual reenactment of Joseph and Mary’s journey on the road to Bethlehem to give birth to Jesus. “The Living Nativity is our gift to the community,” says Pastor Kevin Dotts.
Hundreds of luminaria light the way through 10 scenes telling the Christmas story. Volunteers play the roles of Mary and Joseph, the Wise Men, the inn keeper, shepherds, angels, and Cesar Augustus and his soldiers. Livestock also bring the story to life.
Mary and Joseph faced adversity in having to walk more than 100 miles when Jesus’ birth was imminent. Yet, people were generous in providing shelter and gifts to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
“The story of Jesus’ birth reminds us that adversity can be overcome. It is a timeless message of the joy of new birth and new beginnings,” says Tannis Causey, who is spearheading the Living Nativity. “ We have a wonderful group of volunteers who joyfully come together to create the event.”
The Road to Bethlehem will be open to early walkers from 6:30-7:00 pm, before the streets are opened for vehicle traffic. Later walkers are welcome to travel on the designated walking path until the event closes.
There is no charge for visiting the Living Nativity. Donations of non-perishable food will be given to Friends In Service Helping to feed those in need in the community.
