About Austin's House
In the late 1990s, several volunteers and Douglas County residents rallied together to bring the idea to fruition of a high-quality emergency shelter and services for abused and neglected children.
Ground-breaking was in June, 2006 and the Board of Directors along with many community supporters raised the funding for the 5,300 square foot facility. The facility was completed in July of 2007 and began accepting placements in September of that year.
Austin’s House was built and furnished entirely with private donations of cash, materials and labor.
The founding and building of Austin’s House is truly an example of what a united community can accomplish with a shared vision, said Executive Director Marla Morris.
Today, Austin’s House serves Douglas County, Carson City and all counties and tribes of rural Nevada and has cared for more than 500 children in crises situations.
Austin’s House relies on state grants for approximately 50 percent of its operating expenses with the balance raised through individual, corporate, and foundation donations and fundraising.
