UPDATE: 5:19 p.m.: Tow trucks are being dispatched to both scenes, each to pick up two damaged vehicles. At least two patients have been transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) is proud to support the Food Bank of Northern Nevada – recently donating $17,250 to the Feeding America member organization. Presented Monday, Jan. 31 at Greater Nevada Field, the funds will provide 51,750 meals to community members in need. Of this donation, $8,750 came from GNCU and $8,500 came from a matching grant received from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.

The Carson City Historical Society (CCHS) will be open from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. this Sunday, February 6, and plans to be open those same hours on Sundays through April 10. The Society is experimenting with being open again on a limited basis. Effective Tuesday, February 8, 2022, parents may determine if their student will wear a mask or face covering while in schools within the Carson City School District.

In accordance with Emergency Directive 048, masks will be provided for all students and adults who utilize school transportation.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to approve the three appeals against the Carson Valley Meats processing facility on Thursday evening, which denies the Carson Valley Meats project.

On Thursday, February 3, 2022 at about 1:00 pm Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detectives, with the assistance of Cadaver Canine Handler Mary Cablk and canine Dax found the remains of an adult male in the Lompa Ranch area. The remains appear to be that of a male who was previously reported missing in Carson City.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested at a South Carson St. casino for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license, registration, and insurance.

Tonight, Thursday Feb. 3, the Carson City Board of Supervisors will hear an appeal made by a group of residents against the Planning Commission's second approval of the Carson Valley Meats processing facility.

In late December, a group of residents filed an appeal of the Carson City Planning Commission’s approval awarding a Special Use Permit to Carson Valley Meats for a proposed USDA meat processing facility on Highway 50.

UPDATE 11:18 a.m.: Washoe County Sheriff's Office reported that there was a body found within the burnt vehicle on I-580. An active investigation is ongoing.

The circumstances were deemed to be suspicious, but WCSO Public Information Officer Sarah Johns could not confirm any additional details.

According to NHP Trooper Charles Caster, fire marshals were called early this morning to investigate an active vehicle fire.

As of 11:20 a.m., one lane is open on I-580 after a brief closure of all lanes, but lengthy delays are expected.

I-580 southbound lanes south of Mount Rose between Reno and Carson City has been narrowed to one lane, according to Nevada State Police.

The SR-431 on-ramp is closed. Motorists should use an alternate route as it is unknown when the road will fully reopen.

A 23-year-old man went for a hike, leaving from the Spooner Lake Trailhead around 3:40 yesterday afternoon. This morning, the hiker texted his brother that he needed help.

Working on the theory that the hiker was lost, and likely under-equipped for the frigid temperatures – a multi-agency search began.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Patrol units responded Tuesday to a convenience store on Tillman Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos to meet with a female victim of domestic violence.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Tuesday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. to a vehicle crash involving a bicycle rider in the area of Pine and Hot Springs Road. The rider suffered minor injuries that did not require medical transport. Motorists can expect can expect some delays.

CARSON CITY — Carson High School seniors Allison Gerow and Elias Palumbo have been named candidates as part of the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Gerow was named for accomplishments in advance placement and NJROTC courses, and Palumbo was recognized for his accomplishments in Career and Technical Education. All U.S. Presidential Scholars candidates are nominated by their Chief State School Officers.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
