Host Families Wanted for Carson City Rotary Exchange Students
Your family can explore a foreign country without leaving home. The Rotary Club of Carson City is looking for families interested in hosting a foreign exchange student during the 2022/2023 school year.
Rotarian Peter Fishburn says the club looks for families who will ensure that the students visit to the US and Carson City in particular is enjoyable and memorable.
“Hosting an exchange student is a life enhancing experience for the entire family,” he said. “The experience for the host family and the student is a win-win. The families feel like they’ve gained another son or daughter, feel good about being an ambassador for our country and state, and teach the student all of the great things about Carson City.”
The student lives with three different families for three months each during their stay. The student will attend Carson High School and take part in all family activities. Rotary provides the student with spending money, the student will be vaccinated, provide their own insurance and given training on what to expect before arriving. The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program operates in 100 countries around the world. The RYE believes its exchange program helps breakdown barriers, makes the world a smaller and friendlier place, and builds a world community one family and one student at a time.
“The students are able to share their culture, their country’s way of life, the cuisine, and provide a personal perspective on their homeland.” said Fishburn. “They also learn a new language, culture and become global citizens. The families and students build a special friendship and connections that can last a lifetime.”
Host families do not need to be affiliated with Rotary. They can have kids of any age at home or be empty nesters.
